Lead qualification · Malta

How does an AI agent qualify leads for a business in Malta?

It asks the questions you put in its prompt, listens, handles a "not now", and ends with a booking, a callback or a handover. The three examples are made-up conversations for a letting agency in Sliema (WhatsApp), a dental clinic in St Julian's (inbound call) and a language school in Gzira (outbound follow-up). The agent works in English and several other languages; it does not speak Maltese.

Example 1 · WhatsApp

Can the agent qualify a tenant enquiry that arrives on WhatsApp?

The agent replies in English within the 24-hour window, asks for budget, move-in date and the number of people, and offers two viewing slots through Cal.com.

  • Move-in: 1 December
  • Occupants: Two adults, remote workers
  • Budget: Up to EUR 1,300 a month
  • Need: Parking
  • Next step: Viewings Sat 10:00, 11:00
Letting agency · Sliema WhatsApp
LeadHi, is the two-bedroom flat near the Sliema front still available?
AgentHello, yes it is. When would you like to move in, and how many people will live there?
LeadTwo of us, from 1 December. We both work remotely.
AgentThank you. What monthly rent range are you looking at, and do you need parking?
LeadUp to 1,300 euros. Parking would be good.
AgentThis flat is within that range and has no parking, but I have another in Gzira with a garage. Which would you like to see?
LeadBoth, if possible. Saturday morning?
AgentI can book both on Saturday at 10:00 and 11:00. I will pass your details to the agent who will meet you. Is this number the best one?
Qualified · hot · two viewings Sat 10:00 and 11:00
Private dental clinic · St Julian's Inbound call
CallerI have had a toothache for two days. Can I be seen this week?
AgentI am sorry to hear it. Is there swelling, a fever, or pain that keeps you awake?
CallerIt keeps me awake, but no swelling.
AgentThank you. I will mark it as soon as possible. Have you been to this clinic before?
CallerNo, I am new here. I work at a hotel nearby.
AgentWelcome. The earliest slot is tomorrow at 8:30 with Dr Camilleri. Shall I book it?
CallerYes please.
AgentBooked. I have noted your name and number, and the team will send a short message with the address. If the pain gets worse or swelling starts, call this number and I will pass you straight to the clinic.
New patient · urgent-ish · booked tomorrow 08:30

Example 2 · Inbound call

Can the agent qualify a toothache call and decide who needs a person now?

The agent asks about pain and swelling, books a routine slot for a mild case and passes an urgent one to the dentist on duty. The agent gives no clinical advice.

  • Reason: Toothache for two days, no swelling
  • Patient: New, works nearby
  • Urgency: As soon as possible
  • Next step: Booked 08:30 tomorrow

Example 3 · Outbound follow-up call

Can the agent follow up a course enquiry from abroad that asked to be called?

The agent says who is calling, why and offers to stop, then asks the parent about dates and age group. The parent is not ready to decide, so the call ends with a callback, not a booking.

  • Student: 14 years old
  • Dates: July, two weeks
  • Language: Prefers Italian
  • Decision: Parents to discuss
  • Next step: Callback next week
English-language school · Gzira Outbound follow-up call
AgentGood afternoon, this is the automated assistant of Harbour English School in Malta. You asked on our website for a call about summer courses. Is now a good time, or shall I stop?
LeadYes, now is fine. I am calling from Milan. Can we speak in Italian?
AgentCertamente. Quanti anni ha suo figlio, e quando vorrebbe venire a Malta?
LeadHe is fourteen. July, for two weeks.
AgentThank you. We have a teen course in July with accommodation in host families. Would you like me to book a call with our advisor?
LeadNot yet. We need to talk to his father first. Call me next week.
AgentOf course. I will note a call next week in the evening, Italian time. If you prefer not to be called, say so and I will remove you.
LeadCall me, thank you.
Not ready · warm · callback next week, evening Italian time

Questions to ask

What should the agent ask a lead in Malta?

You write these into the agent's prompt, in your own words and in your customers' language.

QuestionWhy it matters here
When do you want to move in, start the course or visit?Malta's market moves with the season; dates tell you whether to act today or in a month.
How many people, and of what age or need?Flat size, group bookings and course levels all depend on it.
What is your budget range? It stops you showing a flat or a course that is out of range.
Are you already in Malta, or calling from abroad?Callers from abroad need a call at the right hour on their clock and a way to pay or confirm remotely.
Which language would you like to continue in?English is the default; Italian, German or French may be better for visitors. Maltese is not supported.
Is there anyone else who decides?Parents, partners or an employer often decide together, and the next call should include them.

Reading the outcome

Hot, warm or cold: what happens next.

The bands are the ones you describe in the prompt, then read off each call's outcome and transcript.

BandWhat it meansWhat you do next
HotDates, budget and need are clear, and a viewing, slot or advisor call is already booked.Confirm by a message and make sure a named person has the details.
WarmInterested but waiting on a decision-maker, dates or a deposit.Book a callback at a courteous hour and send the information they asked for.
ColdBrowsing or comparing prices. The bands are what you write into the prompt, not a built-in score.Keep the note, contact them once at the time they gave, and add anyone who asks to stop to your do-not-contact list.

The rules

What the rules say about following up a lead in Malta.

Consent, do-not-call lists, calling hours and recording are set by local law, and you are responsible for them.

Calling a lead who asked to be called

The Information and Data Protection Commissioner (IDPC) says marketing by automatic calling machine needs the recipient's prior consent, with a narrow exception for existing customers, and that cold calls involving human intervention are permissible if requests not to be contacted are respected. The rules are in the Processing of Personal Data (Electronic Communications Sector) Regulations, S.L. 586.01. We could not verify how an AI voice agent is classified, so plan on the stricter view and make the form say you may call. Source: IDPC direct-marketing page, read 25 October 2026. We found no calling-hours rule for marketing calls; set courteous hours on the called person's clock. Read the official text; not legal advice.

WhatsApp opt-in

Meta's WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy (page dated 23 September 2026, read 25 October 2026) says you may message people only if they have opted in, and you must honour requests to stop. Templates are needed outside the 24-hour window. Online gambling and gaming messages are allowed only in Australia, Japan, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, so a gaming business in Malta should not plan on them. Not legal advice.

Data, recording and the greeting

Malta is in the EU, so the GDPR applies and the IDPC supervises it. We support region deployments for enterprise customers. Recording is off by default and is a per-agent switch; the opening line is yours, so it can say the call is automated and whether it is recorded. We did not verify a Maltese statute on recording, so ask your adviser.

Read on 25 October 2026. Read the official text; this is not legal advice.

Local notes

What is different in Malta.

  • Voice: English with named accents such as British, Irish and American, and Italian, German and French on the phone. Maltese is not supported, so offer a person when a caller needs it.
  • Channel: WhatsApp suits enquiries from tenants and visitors; we found no reliable national figure on how widely it is used in Malta, so we make no claim.
  • Timing: many leads come from abroad. Set campaign hours on the called person's clock, not Malta's, and expect a busy enquiry season in spring and summer.
  • Language mix: callers may switch between Maltese and English in one sentence. We have no measured results for that, so test with your own callers.

Questions

Common questions.

Can the agent qualify leads in Maltese?

+
No. Maltese is not among the 50 voice languages or the 37 chat languages. English, Italian, German, French and others are.

Can I call a lead who filled in a web form?

+
The IDPC says automatic-calling-machine marketing needs prior consent and cold calls involving human intervention are permissible if opt-outs are respected. How an AI agent is classified is unclear; make the form say you may call and ask your adviser.

Does the platform score leads?

+
No. You write the bands into the agent's prompt and read them off the outcome.

Where is lead data stored?

+
Each workspace keeps its data in the region it is set up in. Calls are processed partly in the EU and the US, under transfer safeguards. We support region deployments for enterprise customers.

Can a gaming company use this on WhatsApp?

+
Meta allows online gambling messages only in five countries, and Malta is not one. Check Meta's policy and your compliance team before planning any.
