Nepal
AI phone and WhatsApp agents for businesses in Nepal.
thinnest answers your calls in English or Hindi, books appointments and enquiries, and replies to customers on WhatsApp, for businesses in Kathmandu, Pokhara and beyond. Nepali voice is available on our India deployment.
Nepali voice AI
Can an AI agent speak Nepali on the phone?
Yes, on our India deployment, where Nepali is one of the 22 scheduled Indian languages. On the international deployment, which is where a workspace opened from Nepal normally goes, voice agents speak Hindi and English, not Nepali.
If Nepali on the phone is what you need, write to hello@thinnest.ai before you build, and tell us what the agent has to do. We will say honestly whether it fits. The India deployment is a separate service, with its own billing and data location, so it is not a setting you switch on inside an international workspace.
If your callers are visitors or clients who speak English, the international deployment suits that well. Hindi voice is there for callers who are comfortable in it. Ring your own agent with real phrases before you go live.

AI call answering
What does an AI phone agent do for a business in Kathmandu?
It answers the calls you would otherwise miss, while the team is with a guest or a patient, after hours or when every line is busy, and handles them like a good front desk: a booking, a message, an answer from your price list, or a transfer to you.
The call above came in before the office opened, from a time zone where it was already evening. Without an agent it would have gone unanswered. With one, the dates and contact details are waiting for the morning staff. A new workspace starts in your own time zone.
- Bookings go into your calendar through Cal.com, or into your own system through its API.
- Questions about routes, prices, timings and locations are answered from your website and documents.
- Every call gets a transcript and an outcome; recording is a switch you turn on for each agent. More on the AI receptionist page.
Can the same agent answer customers on WhatsApp?
Yes. Connect a WhatsApp Business API number and one agent answers on WhatsApp, on your website chat and on the phone, with one memory of each customer, matched by phone number.
A guest who messages on WhatsApp and rings the next day is recognised by the number. The agent can say they have spoken before, and holds back what was said until the person verifies who they are. For Nepali-language chat or WhatsApp replies, ask us at hello@thinnest.ai before you plan around it.
- Everything runs inside thinnest: templates, broadcasts and the shared inbox, where your staff can take over a chat at any time. See WhatsApp Business API.
- Facebook Messenger and Instagram messages are not channels the agent answers. If you take bookings there, plan to move customers to WhatsApp or your website.
Your number
Can I use my Nepali phone number?
If the number lives on a Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account you hold, connect the account and the agent answers that number. We don't sell Nepali numbers.
- Whether a carrier can give you a +977 number, and on what terms, is for that carrier to say. Ask it before you plan around one.
- Number with another phone provider? Forward your calls to a number you hold on one of those accounts.
- Transfer to a person and voicemail detection work on Plivo and Telnyx numbers. An imported Twilio number answers and records, but can't transfer or detect voicemail.
- Telnyx calls only the countries switched on in your outbound voice profile, so add Nepal before making outbound calls.

Outbound calls and messages
What rules apply to marketing calls and messages in Nepal?
Nepal's telecom regulator is the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). In the sources we read we found no NTA rule on telemarketing or unsolicited calls to point you to, so treat that as unsettled. We did find a consent rule for advertising messages. You are responsible for following the rules; we do not screen numbers against any register.
- A summary of Nepal's data-protection position by DLA Piper says an advertisement-oriented SMS or email cannot be sent to a person without that person's consent, citing the Advertisement Act and its Regulation. Check the Act itself for how it applies to calls and WhatsApp.
- The NTA's recent public warnings that we found concern unauthorised international SMS routing and licensing, not marketing consent.
- We found no Nepali rule on calling hours for a business making its own calls, or on AI-voiced calls. Set hours that are reasonable on the called person's clock.
The product gives you tools such as a do-not-contact list you keep, calling hours you set for each campaign, an opening line that says who is calling and why (you write it, so it can say the caller is an AI), and a transcript of every call. Answering your own inbound calls is a different matter from cold calling; most businesses start there.
Sources: DLA Piper's Nepal data-protection overview and press reports on the NTA, read on 25 October 2026. Read the official text on the Nepal Law Commission and NTA websites. This is not legal advice.
Recording and privacy
Can I record calls, and what does the Privacy Act say?
Tell callers at the start that the call may be recorded, and keep recording off until you have done so. Nepal's Privacy Act, 2075 (2018) governs personal information and puts consent at its centre; Nepal has no separate data-protection authority.
- Recording: a secondary summary says section 293 of the National Penal Code, 2074 bars recording a conversation without the consent of those involved or authorisation from the relevant authority. We have not read the section ourselves, so ask a Nepali lawyer.
- Privacy Act: it took effect on 18 September 2018, and the Individual Privacy Regulation, 2077 sits under it. Law-firm summaries say it requires consent and notice of the purpose when personal information is collected. The DLA Piper overview says no data-protection authority has been designated; complaints go to the district court or the police.
- A broader data-protection or IT and cybersecurity bill was reported as tabled in Parliament in August 2025. We could not confirm its status, so do not treat it as law.
Calls are processed partly in other countries, with speech recognition in the EU and the voice and the language model in the US, under transfer safeguards. We also support region deployments for enterprise customers. The privacy policy sets out the detail. Sources read on 25 October 2026; not legal advice.
Sign-up and billing
How do I sign up and pay from Nepal?
Start free in your browser, build the agent and ring it from the page. On the international deployment, paid plans are billed in US dollars by card, through a merchant of record that handles sales tax and VAT where they apply. Prices are on the pricing page.
Your bank converts the charge into rupees. Whether your bank or card allows payments to overseas merchants is something only your bank can confirm, so check it before you plan around a paid plan.
