Bangladesh
A Bengali and English AI phone agent for businesses in Bangladesh.
thinnest answers your calls in Bengali or English, books appointments and orders, takes messages and replies to customers on WhatsApp, for businesses in Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet and beyond.
AI call answering
What does an AI phone agent do for a business in Dhaka?
It answers the calls you would otherwise miss, while the team is with a customer, after closing or when every line is busy, and handles them like a good front desk: a booking, a message, an answer from your price list, or a transfer to you.
The call above came in at night, when the centre was shut. Without an agent the patient would have left a missed call and tried somewhere else. With one, the slot is booked and the request is written down for the morning staff.
- Bookings go into your calendar through Cal.com, or into your own system through its API.
- Questions about fees, timings and locations are answered from your website and documents.
- Every call gets a transcript and an outcome; recording is a switch you turn on for each agent. More on the AI receptionist page.

Bengali voice AI
Can an AI agent speak Bengali on the phone?
Yes. Voice agents speak Bengali and English: pick a Bengali voice from the voice library, filtering by gender and age and listening before you choose, and the agent uses it on every call.
Replies on WhatsApp and website chat run in 37 languages, and Bengali is one of them.
To be plain about the limits: we do not claim regional dialects such as Sylheti or Chattogram speech, and we do not claim that callers who switch between Bengali and English in one sentence will always be followed. Ring your own agent with the phrases your customers really use before you go live, and tune the script from the transcripts.
Can the same agent answer customers on WhatsApp?
Yes. Connect a WhatsApp Business API number and one agent answers on WhatsApp, on your website chat and on the phone, with one memory of each customer, matched by phone number.
A customer who messages on WhatsApp and rings the next day is recognised by the number. The agent can say they have spoken before, and holds back what was said until the person verifies who they are.
- Everything runs inside thinnest: templates, broadcasts and the shared inbox, where your staff can take over a chat at any time. See WhatsApp Business API.
- Facebook Messenger and Instagram messages are not channels the agent answers. If you take orders on a Facebook page, plan to move those customers to WhatsApp or your website.
Your number
Can I use my Bangladeshi phone number?
If the number lives on a Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account you hold, connect the account and the agent answers that number. We don't sell Bangladeshi numbers.
- Whether a carrier can give you a +880 number, and on what terms, is for that carrier to say. Ask it before you plan around one.
- Number with another phone provider? Forward your calls to a number you hold on one of those accounts.
- Transfer to a person and voicemail detection work on Plivo and Telnyx numbers. An imported Twilio number answers and records, but can't transfer or detect voicemail.
- Telnyx calls only the countries switched on in your outbound voice profile, so add Bangladesh before making outbound calls.

Outbound calls and messages
What rules apply to marketing calls and messages in Bangladesh?
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has issued directions to mobile operators about promotional messages and automated calls, and runs a Do Not Disturb service through the operators. You are responsible for your own marketing; we do not screen numbers against any register.
- BTRC was reported in 2018 as telling mobile operators to stop promotional SMS and automated (IVR) calls overnight and during religious observances. News reports have given different overnight hours at different times, so find the current circular rather than rely on a figure.
- On 24 April 2021 BTRC asked mobile users to switch on the operators' Do Not Disturb service to stop promotional texts. A 2024 newspaper column noted that it does not stop messages from senders who are not the operator.
- In the sources we read we did not find a Bangladeshi rule that speaks directly to a business making its own calls, to calling hours for it, or to AI-voiced calls. Treat that as unsettled and set hours that are reasonable on the called person's clock.
The product gives you tools such as a do-not-contact list you keep, calling hours you set for each campaign, an opening line that says who is calling and why (you write it, so it can say the caller is an AI), and a transcript of every call. Answering your own inbound calls is a different matter from cold calling; most businesses start there.
Sources: BTRC announcements as reported by Prothom Alo, The Daily Star, bdnews24 and the Dhaka Tribune, read on 25 October 2026. Read the circulars on the BTRC website. This is not legal advice.
Data protection and recording
Is there a data-protection law, and can I record calls?
Yes, there is a law: the Personal Data Protection Ordinance, 2025 (Ordinance No. 61 of 2025), issued on 6 November 2025. Some of its sections phase in later, so check which apply to you. We could not verify a Bangladeshi rule on recording calls, so tell callers at the start that a call may be recorded.
- As reported by The Daily Star and The Business Standard, the Ordinance requires informed, freely given consent for processing, covers foreign entities that handle Bangladeshi citizens' data, and allows data to leave Bangladesh only where the recipient gives equivalent protection, a standard reports call unclear.
- A National Data Governance Authority, created under a companion ordinance, is to oversee it. The Daily Star reported that some sections take effect 18 months after the gazette notice; a policy tracker lists the Ordinance as in force from 6 November 2025. The two differ, which is why we point you to the official text.
- It was issued as an ordinance. Check its current status and any rules made under it.
Calls are processed partly in other countries, with speech recognition in the EU and the voice and the language model in the US, under transfer safeguards. We also support region deployments for enterprise customers. The privacy policy sets out the detail. Ask a Bangladeshi adviser what the transfer rule means for your business. Sources read on 25 October 2026; not legal advice.
Sign-up and billing
How do I sign up and pay from Bangladesh?
Start free in your browser, build the agent and ring it from the page. Paid plans are billed in US dollars by card, through a merchant of record that handles sales tax and VAT where they apply. Prices are on the pricing page.
Your bank converts the charge into taka. Whether your bank or card allows payments to overseas merchants is something only your bank can confirm, so check it before you plan around a paid plan.
