Sri Lanka
An AI receptionist for businesses in Sri Lanka, in English and Tamil.
thinnest answers your calls day and night in English or Tamil, books rooms, appointments and transfers, takes messages and replies on WhatsApp. It does not speak Sinhala, and we say so plainly below.
AI call answering
What does an AI phone agent do for a business in Sri Lanka?
It answers the calls you would otherwise miss, and handles them like a good receptionist: a booking, an enquiry, a message, or a transfer to you. It suits businesses whose callers speak English or Tamil, such as hotels and tour operators with international guests, and Tamil-speaking businesses in the north and east.
A hotel in Galle or Ella, a tour operator in Kandy and an apparel exporter in Colombo all get calls from people who are abroad or in another time zone and expect an answer. A missed call usually means the guest or buyer rings the next name on the list.
- Bookings go into your calendar through Cal.com, or into your own system through its API.
- Questions about rooms, tour routes, fees and directions are answered from your website and documents.
- Every call has a transcript and an outcome. More on how it works on the AI receptionist page.
Voices
Does the agent speak Sinhala, Tamil and English?
English and Tamil, yes. Sinhala, no: it is not among the 50 voice languages, and it is not one of the 37 languages for chat and WhatsApp replies either. If most of your callers speak Sinhala, this product is not the right fit today.
Sinhala is the first language of most people in Sri Lanka, so this matters. English is widely used in tourism, private healthcare, exports, international schools and business generally, and Tamil is the main language in the north and east. We found no reliable figure for how many callers to your business will want Sinhala, so look at your own call log first. Where a caller cannot continue in English or Tamil, set the agent to take a name and number, or to transfer to a person (transfer works on Plivo and Telnyx numbers, not on an imported Twilio number).
We claim the Tamil language, not a Sri Lankan or Indian accent of it. Listen in the voice library, ring your agent from the browser, and have a native speaker try it before you connect your number. For Sinhala needs, write to hello@thinnest.ai; we will not promise a date.
Data
Where is my data stored, and what does Sri Lanka's data protection act say?
We support region deployments for enterprise customers. Sri Lanka's Personal Data Protection Act is coming into force in stages, with the first main parts starting on 1 January 2027, so ask your adviser what applies to you.
What we read on 25 October 2026 from a Financial Times (Sri Lanka) report of 10 August 2026 and a law-firm note of 5 September 2026 (we did not reach the Gazette itself): Extraordinary Gazette No. 2498/16 of 22 July 2026 sets 1 January 2027 for sections 2 and 3 of the Personal Data Protection Act, No. 9 of 2022, and for Part I (lawful and transparent processing) and Part III (duties of controllers and processors, including the rules on sending data abroad). The law-firm note says the data-subject rights in Part II and the enforcement and penalty provisions in Part VII are not in that order. Act No. 22 of 2025 lets the Minister appoint the remaining dates by Gazette.
Calls are processed partly in other countries, with speech recognition in the EU and the voice and the language model in the US, under transfer safeguards. We do not claim this satisfies the Sri Lankan Act's transfer rules for your business. The privacy policy sets out the detail. Read the official text; not legal advice.
Your number
Can I keep my existing Sri Lankan number?
Yes, if the number lives on a Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account you hold: connect the account and the agent answers that number. We don't sell Sri Lankan numbers.
- Number with a Sri Lankan operator? We have not verified which Sri Lankan numbers those providers can hold or port in. The simplest start is forwarding your calls to a number you hold there, so you can test before you move anything.
- Transfer to a person and voicemail detection work on Plivo and Telnyx numbers. An imported Twilio number answers and records, but can't transfer or detect voicemail.
- Telnyx calls only the countries switched on in your outbound voice profile — the US and Canada by default — so add Sri Lanka before making outbound calls.

Outbound calls
What are the rules for AI sales calls in Sri Lanka?
You are responsible for following them, and we could not verify a specific Sri Lankan rule on unsolicited marketing calls. Ask your adviser, and the telecoms regulator TRCSL, before you run any outbound sales campaign.
On 25 October 2026 we searched for a Sri Lankan do-not-call register or a calling-hours rule for telemarketing and found nothing we could confirm from an official source. One 2020 industry report says the regulator directed mobile operators to put a free opt-out in promotional text messages; we could not confirm it still applies or that it covers calls. We state no calling-hours rule for Sri Lanka.
The product gives you tools: a do-not-contact list you keep, calling hours you set for each campaign on the called person's clock, an opening line you write that says who is calling and why, and a transcript of every call. It does not check any register and does not collect consent. Answering your own inbound calls is a different matter, and most businesses start there. Read the official text; not legal advice.
Does it work on WhatsApp for customers in Sri Lanka?
Yes. The same agent answers on WhatsApp, website chat and the phone, with chat replies in 37 languages (English and Tamil among them, Sinhala not) and a shared inbox where your team can take over.
We found no reliable national figure for WhatsApp use in Sri Lanka, so test it with your own customers. Marketing messages need care: Meta's WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy (last updated 23 September 2026) says you may message only people who have given you their number and opted in. See the WhatsApp Business API and the WhatsApp AI agent.
Agencies
Can a Sri Lankan agency resell it under its own brand?
Yes. White label comes with every paid plan: your brand, your domain, your email sender, your sign-in page and your own prices.
Your clients pay you through your own card checkout, buy your plans and set up automatic top-up. You build their receptionists; they see only your brand. See white label for agencies.
Billing
Do you bill in Sri Lankan rupees?
No. International workspaces, Sri Lanka included, are billed in US dollars by card. Checkout runs through a merchant of record that handles sales tax and VAT, and your bank converts the charge. Prices are on the pricing page.
