Definition

In India, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) regulates commercial calls and messages. Its rules run on DLT — distributed ledger technology platforms operated by the telecom operators — where a business registers as a principal entity along with its sender headers, message templates and customer consent. Promotional calls in India use dedicated 140-series numbers, and people can opt out of commercial communication through the national customer preference register.

Who it applies to

Any business sending commercial calls or messages to Indian phone numbers. It does not apply to calls you make to numbers in the US, UK or UAE, which have their own rules — see TCPA and PECR.
