Lead qualification · France
How does an AI agent qualify leads for a business in France?
It asks the questions you write into its prompt, in French or English, on the phone or on WhatsApp, then books a visit, schedules a callback or hands the lead to a person. Below are three conversations from the Dordogne, Bordeaux and Paris, the questions that matter when buying or booking in France, and the consent rules for phone follow-up that changed on 11 August 2026.
Example 1 · Inbound call
Can the agent qualify a foreign buyer who rings in English about a country house?
Yes. The caller lives in the Netherlands and wants a second home; the agent asks about budget, region, financing and timing, and books a viewing weekend with an agent. The lead leaves the call with a slot and a clear next step.
- Name: Pieter de Vries
- Need: Second home, stone house near Sarlat
- Budget: About 320,000 euros, mostly cash
- Language: English
- Timing: First weekend of November
Example 2 · Outbound follow-up call
Can the agent follow up a couple who asked to be called, and accept a "not yet"?
Yes. The couple ticked a box on the venue's form saying they wanted a phone call about dates. The agent says who is calling and why, offers to stop, asks what the events team needs and, when told the date depends on a family decision, schedules a callback in January. The call is in French and shown here in English.
- Name: Thomas Lefebvre
- Event: Wedding, late June or early September
- Guests: About 90
- Blocker: Waiting for the partner's family to choose a date
- Consent: Ticked the box asking for a call on the form
Example 3 · WhatsApp
Can the agent qualify a company-event quote request on WhatsApp?
Yes. The customer wrote first from the caterer's website button, so the agent can reply in the open conversation. It asks about the event, numbers, dietary needs and budget, then books a tasting call. The chat is in French and shown here in English.
- Event: Team lunch, Thursday 10 December, near Bastille
- Guests: 45; 8 vegetarian, 5 halal
- Budget: About 28 euros per person
- Next step: Chef call Monday 16 November, 11:00
Questions to ask
What should the agent ask a lead in France?
You write these into the agent's prompt, in your own words and in your customers' language.
| Question | Why it matters here |
|---|---|
| Which language would you like to continue in? | France has many English-speaking owners and visitors. Voice agents speak French, English and many other languages, so asking first lets you use the lead's own language on a call. Chat and WhatsApp replies run in French and English among 37 languages. |
| Is it a main home, a second home or a business, and will you pay cash or take a mortgage? | For property, the purpose and the financing route decide how fast a purchase can move and which paperwork follows. It separates a serious buyer from a browser. This is general knowledge; ask your adviser. |
| Which town, department or region? | Travel time, prices and who can serve the customer differ between Paris, the south-west, Provence and the Alps. A lead outside your area should be told so early. |
| How many people, which date or season, and are there dietary or access needs? | For venues, caterers and gites, numbers and dates are what decide availability, and dietary needs change the offer. A range of dates is enough to band the lead. |
| What budget range do you have in mind? | A range, not an exact figure, is enough to band the lead. French customers often ask for several quotes (devis), so the budget and the timing tell you how quickly to move. |
| May we call you about this, and when is best? | Since 11 August 2026 a consumer must have consented beforehand to commercial calls, and calls are limited to weekdays at set hours. A separate, dated yes to a phone call, with the best time, is part of the qualification. |
Reading the outcome
Hot, warm or cold: what happens next.
The bands are the ones you describe in the prompt, then read off each call's outcome and transcript.
| Band | What it means | What you do next |
|---|---|---|
| Hot | Budget, dates and numbers fit, the person decides, and they accepted a viewing, visit or call. | Confirm the slot by message, send the address, and brief the person who will meet them. The bands are what you write into the agent's prompt, not a built-in score. |
| Warm | Real interest but not ready: waiting for a family decision, financing, a date or a second quote. | Let the agent schedule the callback the lead chose, inside the permitted days and hours, and send a short message with what you offer meanwhile. |
| Cold | Outside your area or budget range, only browsing, or asked not to be contacted. | Close politely with the information they asked for, add anyone who withdrew consent to your do-not-contact list at once, and do not contact them again. |
The rules
What the rules say about following up a lead in France.
Consent, do-not-call lists, calling hours and recording are set by local law, and you are responsible for them.
Calling someone who filled in a web form
Since 11 August 2026, according to the CNIL, a business may phone a consumer for commercial canvassing only with their prior consent, and Bloctel has ended. The CNIL's sheet (10 June 2026) says consent must be free, specific, informed and unambiguous, not a pre-ticked box or acceptance of general terms; it should name the caller and the kind of offer, be valid for one year at most and be withdrawable at any time; and the proof is kept for at least three years. Calls are allowed Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 20:00, not at weekends or on public holidays unless the person expressly agrees, and a call following an explicit request for information is allowed within five working days and only about what was asked. Exceptions include a call about a contract in force; canvassing for energy renovation, home adaptation for loss of independence and the CPF is banned outright. For professionals the CNIL says to inform them and let them object. The DGCCRF also limits retries; read its guide for the figure. The CNIL's phone sheet excludes automated calling systems, and we could not verify how a voice agent is classified, so plan on the stricter view. The product does not collect or check consent. Read the official text; not legal advice.
Following up on WhatsApp
The CNIL says prospecting by electronic means to consumers rests on prior consent, with an exception for your own customers and similar products, and that professionals must be informed and able to object. The CNIL page we read lists e-mail, SMS-MMS and automated calls and does not mention messaging apps, so whether a WhatsApp marketing message counts is a question for your adviser. A lead who writes to you first can be answered in that conversation. Writing first to someone who only filled in a form is different: ask on the form whether they want WhatsApp, and outside the 24-hour window use an approved template. Read the official text; not legal advice.
Recording, hours and data
The CNIL's guidance on recording calls at work (an older page that says it is being updated) says callers must be told in two steps, a spoken sentence at the start and a pointer to the full notice, and told of their right to object before the call ends; recordings are kept six months at most by default. Recording is a per-agent switch, off by default, and the opening line is yours to write. The platform sets no calling window of its own; you set hours on the called person's clock, and they must match the rule above. We support region deployments for enterprise customers. Calls are also processed partly in other countries under transfer safeguards. Read the official text; not legal advice.

Local notes
What is different in France.
- Languages: voice agents speak French and English in American, British, Australian, Indian and other accents, and German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch and Arabic among others. We claim French, not a regional variety, so no promise about a Canadian or Belgian accent. Arabic and Dutch are voice only. Choose "vous" in the instructions unless your brand is deliberately informal.
- Channel: chat and WhatsApp replies run in 37 languages, French and English among them. We found no reliable national figure for how many customers prefer WhatsApp for business, so ask your own customers.
- Timing: the permitted call hours leave out the lunch hour from 13:00 to 14:00, weekends and public holidays, and August is a slow month for many people, so a callback in September may suit better than pushing. The hours are a legal rule for consumers who consented; the August remark is a custom.
- Numbers: use your own French number, imported from a Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account you hold; we do not sell French numbers, and Telnyx needs France switched on for outbound calls.
