WhatsApp automation use cases for businesses in France
WhatsApp Business messages, approved templates and an AI agent that answers in French or English let a small French business confirm, quote and answer without a second phone. These are eight situations that fit, with the consent rules and limits that come with them.
Eight use cases
How businesses in France use whatsapp automation.
Fictional businesses in real places, to show what the agent does with WhatsApp messages.
01 — Restaurant · Paris
Confirming a table by template
The restaurant sends an approved confirmation the day before. The guest replies to confirm, change the number or cancel, and the agent updates the booking.
- Sends the confirmation template with the date, time and number of guests.
- Reads the reply: confirm, change or cancel.
- Offers an alternative slot from your calendar through Cal.com.
- Hands large groups and special requests to the manager.
Empty tables are released early because guests reply with a word instead of not turning up.
02 — Online cheese shop · Lyon
Order and delivery updates
Customers order cheese for the weekend and ask when it arrives. A template tells them when it ships, and the agent answers from your shop system through a tool call.
- Sends a shipping template with the tracking link.
- Answers "where is my order" from your shop system.
- Explains cold-chain and delivery times from the knowledge base.
- Hands damaged parcels to the team in the shared inbox.
The team answers only the problem parcels, not every "where is it" message.
03 — Painter and decorator · Marseille
Quote requests with photos
A customer writes about repainting a flat. The agent asks the rooms, the surface, the building and the dates, asks for photos, and books a visit for the quote.
- Replies in the open conversation the customer started.
- Asks rooms, surface and preferred dates.
- Asks for photos of the walls and ceilings.
- Books the visit through Cal.com and confirms in the chat.
The painter arrives with the measurements and photos, and the quote is faster.
04 — Hairdresser · Bordeaux
Moving a hair appointment
Clients message to move an appointment, usually at the last minute. The agent offers free slots, confirms the move and tells the stylist.
- Reads the request to change an appointment.
- Offers two free slots from the calendar.
- Confirms the new time in the same chat.
- Releases the old slot for the next client.
The salon stops losing time to the phone, and moved slots are filled.
05 — Gîte · Dordogne
Welcome messages for holiday guests
Before arrival the host sends an approved welcome message with the address, the key and the rules. Guests reply with questions and the agent answers in French, English or German; Dutch is not available in chat.
- Sends the welcome template to the guests who booked.
- Answers from the property guide in the knowledge base.
- Records the expected arrival time.
- Hands complaints to the host.
The host receives arrival times and fewer repeated questions.
06 — Garage · Toulouse
A booking form inside the chat
A WhatsApp form asks for the make, the plate, the service wanted and a drop-off day, so the request arrives complete.
- Sends a WhatsApp Form when the customer asks for a service.
- Reads the answers and offers a drop-off day.
- Confirms the booking and sends the address.
- Passes an unusual request to the service adviser.
Requests arrive complete, and the counter stops asking the same four questions.
07 — Bakery · Paris
Pre-order messages to opted-in customers
Before Christmas the bakery invites customers who ticked a box for messages to pre-order cakes. The agent answers questions and records the orders. Only people who consented receive it.
- Sends the invitation template only to the opted-in list.
- Answers questions about flavours, sizes and pick-up days.
- Records the pre-order and the pick-up time.
- Removes anyone who replies STOP from the list at once.
The bakery plans its baking from written pre-orders instead of guesses.
08 — Letting agency · Marseille
A tenant who moves from the phone to WhatsApp
A tenant rings about a leak and later writes on WhatsApp for an update. The agent keeps one memory of the customer: records are linked by phone number, and it withholds what was said on the call until the person verifies.
- Recognises the number as the one that rang earlier.
- Says it has spoken to them before, without repeating details.
- Asks the tenant to verify before sharing the earlier report.
- Updates the status and hands on to the technician if needed.
The tenant does not repeat the story, and details are not disclosed to the wrong person.
In practice
How whatsapp automation is used in France.
- We found no reliable national figure for how many customers in France prefer WhatsApp for business, so we quote none; ask your own customers, and offer the phone and e-mail as well.
- The agent replies in 37 languages, French and English among them. Dutch and Arabic are voice only, so a Dutch or Arabic message is answered in French or English.
- A customer who writes first opens a 24-hour window in which the agent can reply freely; outside it you need an approved template, which Meta reviews.
Plainly
What this will not do for you in France.
So you can rule it in or out before you start.
- Marketing messages need the recipient's consent; the product does not collect or check it. Keep your own opt-in record.
- No product catalogues, checkout or WhatsApp Pay messages, and no coexistence with the WhatsApp Business App on the same number.
- Business verification and Meta's payment card stay in Meta's tools; everything else works in our platform.
- Health details do not belong in messages; the HDS question for clinics is open (see the France page).
The rules
The rules that apply in France.
The rules differ by country and change; you are responsible for following them where you operate.
Electronic prospecting needs consent
The CNIL says prospecting by electronic means to consumers rests on prior consent, with an exception for your own customers and similar products, and that professionals must be informed and able to object; every message must identify the sender and offer a simple way to refuse more. The CNIL page we read lists e-mail, SMS-MMS and automated calls and does not mention messaging apps, so whether a WhatsApp marketing message counts is a question for your adviser. A reminder about a booking the person made is not an offer; leave offers out of it. Meta's own messaging policy sets its own opt-in requirement; see our post on opt-in rules. Read the official text; not legal advice.
Data
We support region deployments for enterprise customers. Messages are also processed partly in other countries under transfer safeguards. The supervisory authority for the RGPD in France is the CNIL. Read the official text; not legal advice.
