AI call answering
What does an AI phone agent do for a business in Mexico?
It answers the calls and messages you would otherwise miss while you are with a patient, a client or a tray of orders, and deals with them the way a good receptionist would: a booking, a message, or a handover to a person. Callers speak Spanish or English; WhatsApp customers are answered by the same agent.
A small business in Mexico often runs on one phone number that is also a WhatsApp number, answered by the owner between jobs. An agent that picks up every call and replies to every message stops the enquiries that arrive at the wrong moment from going to a competitor.
- Bookings go into your calendar through Cal.com, or into your own system through its API.
- Questions about prices, opening hours, treatments, delivery areas and directions are answered from your website and documents.
- Every call has a transcript and an outcome. More on how it works on the AI receptionist page, and in our guide for small businesses in Mexico.
Voices
Does the agent speak Spanish, and what about English?
Yes to both. Voice agents speak Spanish and English, and you choose each voice from a searchable library and listen before you pick. Replies on WhatsApp and website chat run in 37 languages, and Spanish and English are both among them.
English matters in Mexico more than the tourist coast suggests: cross-border customers from the United States, foreign residents, and business visitors in Monterrey, Querétaro or Mexico City all ring in English. Voice agents also speak French, German, Portuguese and many more, so a booking line in Cancún can answer a Quebec family in French.
To be straight about the limits: we claim the language, Spanish, and not a regional accent of it. We have not published how each voice sounds for a Mexican ear, so listen in the library, ring your agent from the browser, and have a Mexican colleague try it before you connect your number. Indigenous languages such as Nahuatl or Yucatec Maya are not among our voice languages, and chat replies do not cover them either.
Does it work on WhatsApp for customers in Mexico?
Yes. The same agent answers on WhatsApp, website chat and the phone, with replies in Spanish or English, a shared inbox where your team can take over, and approved templates for reminders and confirmations.
WhatsApp is how many small businesses in Mexico talk to their customers, though we found no reliable national figure to quote. The official WhatsApp Business API runs inside the platform, so you do not need Meta's WhatsApp Manager for day-to-day work. Marketing messages need care: send them only to people who have agreed to receive them. See the WhatsApp Business API and the WhatsApp AI agent.
Your number
Can I keep my existing Mexican number?
Yes, if the number lives on a Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account you hold: connect the account and the agent answers that number. We don't sell Mexican numbers.
- Number with a Mexican carrier? Port it to one of those accounts, or forward your calls to a number you hold there.
- Transfer to a person and voicemail detection work on Plivo and Telnyx numbers. An imported Twilio number answers and records, but can't transfer or detect voicemail.
- Telnyx calls only the countries switched on in your outbound voice profile - the US and Canada by default - so add Mexico before making outbound calls.

Outbound calls
What are the rules for AI sales calls and messages in Mexico?
You are responsible for following them. PROFECO runs a free public register, the Registro Público para Evitar Publicidad (REPEP), where consumers list their numbers; a provider is expected to stop using a listed number for promotional calls. Check REPEP, and the consent you hold, before any outbound campaign.
What we found, as read on 25 October 2026 (PROFECO's own pages could not be opened by our tools, so this comes from reporting and law-firm commentary about PROFECO and the Federal Consumer Protection Law, the LFPC): anyone can register a number with REPEP online or by phone, the registration does not expire, and once a number is registered providers have 30 calendar days to stop; after that the consumer can complain to PROFECO. REPEP is described as covering phone calls and text messages. We could not confirm whether it covers WhatsApp messages. Reports also say PROFECO is not competent over calls by financial-services providers, insurers, collection agencies, political organisations, charities and pollsters; treat that as unverified and ask your adviser which regime applies to you.
The product gives you tools: a do-not-contact list you keep, calling hours you set for each campaign on the called person's clock, an opening line you write, and a transcript of every call. It does not screen numbers against REPEP, and it does not collect or check consent. We found no calling-hours rule for sales calls in the sources we could read, so set hours you would defend. We could not verify how an AI voice agent is classified under Mexican consumer law, so plan on the stricter view. Read our guide to REPEP and AI outbound calls. Answering your own inbound calls is a different matter from cold calling, and most businesses start there. Read the official text; not legal advice.
Data
Where is my data stored, and what does Mexican law ask of me?
Each workspace keeps its data in the region it is set up in. We support region deployments for enterprise customers.
Calls are processed partly in other countries, with speech recognition in the EU and the voice and the language model in the US, under transfer safeguards. Mexico's private-sector data law was replaced in 2025: the new Federal Law on the Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties (LFPDPPP) was published on 20 March 2025 and entered into force the next day, and the Secretaría Anticorrupción y Buen Gobierno took over from INAI as the authority (read in a law-firm summary on 25 October 2026). It asks a business that collects personal data to give a privacy notice, an aviso de privacidad, and describes transfers to anyone, inside or outside Mexico. Whether your use of a platform abroad needs anything more is a question for your adviser. The privacy policy sets out the detail.
You remain responsible for telling callers how their data is used, including that a call is recorded if you switch recording on (it is off by default). The agent's opening line is yours to write, so it can say so at the start of every call. We have not verified Mexican rules on recording phone calls, so take advice. Read the official text; not legal advice.
Agencies
Can a Mexican agency resell it under its own brand?
Yes. White label comes with every paid plan: your brand, your domain, your email sender, your sign-in page and your own prices.
Your clients pay you through your own card checkout, buy your plans and set up automatic top-up. You build their receptionists; they see only your brand. See white label for agencies.
Billing
Do you bill in pesos?
No. International workspaces, Mexico included, are billed in US dollars by card. Checkout runs through a merchant of record that handles sales tax and VAT, and your bank converts the charge. Prices are on the pricing page.
