Voice AI platforms compared, for Canadian businesses
For a Canadian business the choice comes down to five checks: whether you can keep your number, whether English and French both work on the phone, how outbound calls sit with the National Do Not Call List and CASL, whether text and chat channels sit in the same agent, and what currency you are billed in. This page puts ThinnestAI beside three developer platforms on those checks, with the sources and the date we read them.
What to check
Five things to check before you choose, in Canada.
Put the last column to every supplier you are weighing, ThinnestAI included.
| Check | Why it matters in Canada | ThinnestAI | Ask any supplier |
|---|---|---|---|
| A number you can keep | Canadian small businesses are spread over long distances and several time zones, and a trades company, clinic or law office rarely has someone free to pick up. | Connect the number from your own Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account, or forward calls from your Canadian carrier to a number you hold there. We don't sell Canadian numbers, and transfer to a person and voicemail detection don't work on an imported Twilio number. Telnyx outbound covers the US and Canada by default. | Can the agent pick up the number my customers already dial, and can I move it away without losing it? |
| English, French and the languages of the cities | Montreal works in French and English, and Vancouver and Toronto hear Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Tamil and Spanish every day. A business in Quebec has French-language duties as well (see our Quebec guide). | English with a Canadian accent is in the voice library, and French is among the 50 voice languages. We claim French as a language, not a Quebec accent, so have a native speaker from your region try it. Punjabi is chat and WhatsApp only, with no Punjabi voice. | Which Canadian-accent voices do you have, and can a French speaker from my region test the French before I commit? |
| Outbound calling rules | Telemarketers, and the organisations they call for, must register with the National DNCL even when their calls are exempt; calls to businesses are outside it. CRTC enforcement notices cite 9:00 to 21:30 on weekdays and 10:00 to 18:00 on weekends, on the called person's clock, and provincial rules can differ (read 25 October 2026). Automatic dialing-announcing devices (ADAD) have their own rules. | You set calling hours per campaign on the called person's clock and keep your own do-not-contact list. The agent does not check the National DNCL and holds no consent record. We could not verify how an AI voice agent is classified, so plan on the stricter view. | Who checks the National DNCL before a campaign runs, and can I stop calls outside the hours I set? |
| Recording and privacy | PIPEDA keeps applying to personal information that crosses borders, Quebec is stricter on transfers out of the province, and section 184 of the Criminal Code makes intercepting a private communication an offence without consent, express or implied (read 25 October 2026). | Recording is a per-agent switch that stays off until you turn it on, and the opening line is yours to write, so it can tell the caller at the start that the call is recorded. We support region deployments for enterprise customers and point you to the privacy policy; ask your own adviser what PIPEDA or Quebec law asks of you. | Is recording off by default, and what do you tell me, in writing, about how call data is handled? |
| Text channels and billing | WhatsApp is far from the only channel in Canada: many customers prefer text messages, web chat or the phone, and commercial electronic messages fall under the anti-spam law, CASL, which needs consent. | One agent answers the phone, WhatsApp, website chat and Telegram, with a shared inbox and approved templates for reminders. Billing is in US dollars by card; there is no Canadian-dollar billing. | Which channels does one agent cover, and in which currency do you invoice? |

Other options
Other kinds of supplier in Canada.
Kinds of supplier, not companies. Each is the right call for someone.
A bilingual staffed answering service
People answer in English or French, can judge a stressed caller and pass urgent ones on. It is the better call when every caller needs a person from the first word, as with legal intake. It cannot take a hundred calls at once.
A cloud phone system with an auto-attendant
A cloud phone system with a Canadian number gives you menus, ring groups and voicemail on one bill. It routes calls where you send them. It does not understand a question, book a job or write a transcript.
Building on a developer platform
A team with engineers can join speech, language-model, voice and telephony parts into the agent it wants, including its own handling of the DNCL. That buys control and costs build time, and you own the testing and the inbox.
Plainly
Who should pick what.
ThinnestAI fits when
- You want an English agent with a Canadian accent and a French agent in one product, for example a dental clinic in Montreal or a law office in Ottawa.
- You answer the phone, WhatsApp and web chat across several time zones and want one agent with one history of each customer, and a shared inbox where your staff can take over.
- You are a small trades or clinic team that needs a managed product rather than a build: a call log, bookings into your calendar, and campaigns with calling hours you set.
Something else fits better when
- Your callers need a person from the first word, such as an immigration or legal enquiry where the caller wants advice. Use a staffed service or your own staff.
- You want a Punjabi phone line, or a French voice already proven for Quebec. Punjabi is not a voice language here, and we claim no Quebec accent.
- You want to buy a Canadian number inside the same product you build the agent in. We sell numbers in India only; a supplier that sells them in Canada is the better fit.
