Voice AI use cases · Spain

What are the best uses of voice AI for businesses in Spain?

Voice AI works best in Spain where calls come when nobody can answer and callers often speak another language: restaurants at service time, hotels at night, clinics that overbook, and advisers with foreign clients. Below are eight real situations, the limits that apply here, and the rules for answering and making calls.

Eight use cases

How businesses in Spain use voice ai.

Fictional businesses in real places, to show what the agent does with calls.

01 — Restaurant and flamenco venue · Seville

Taking table and group bookings during the dinner service

During the evening rush nobody can pick up the phone, and tourists ring to book a table with a show. The agent answers in Spanish or English, takes the booking and passes large groups to the manager.

  1. Answers with the venue name, and says it is an automated assistant.
  2. Asks the date, time, party size and any allergy, answering menu questions from the menu you uploaded.
  3. Books the table through Cal.com, or records the request for the team if it is a group.
  4. Escalates groups and special requests to a person and leaves the transcript.

Tourists get an answer and a booking instead of a ringing phone, and the manager sees every group request.

02 — Boutique hotel · Palma

Covering the night line and late arrivals

Guests ring late, often from the airport or another time zone, to ask about transfers or check-in. The agent answers in the guest's language and leaves reception a clear request for the morning.

  1. Greets in English, German, Spanish or another voice language and asks the guest for name and booking.
  2. Answers arrival, parking and breakfast questions from the hotel guide in the knowledge base.
  3. Records requests such as a taxi or a late arrival, without promising anything it cannot see.
  4. Transfers genuine emergencies to the night manager on a Plivo or Telnyx number, or flags the message.

Reception starts the day with a list of written requests instead of voicemails in several languages.

03 — Boat charter · Ibiza

Answering charter enquiries from holidaymakers

In summer the skipper is at sea when visitors ring to ask about boats, dates and what is included. The agent answers from the charter sheet and books a call with the owner.

  1. Asks the group size, dates and whether they want a day trip or a week.
  2. Answers what is included, where it departs and what to bring from the knowledge base.
  3. Books a call or a visit through Cal.com, and notes the preferred language.
  4. Hands a hot enquiry to the owner with the transcript.

Enquiries reach the owner organised and in the caller's words, even when the boat is out.

04 — Private dental clinic · Barcelona

Confirming appointments and offering the freed slot

Patients who forget appointments leave empty chairs. The agent rings existing patients to confirm, in Catalan, Spanish or English, and offers a cancelled slot to the next person.

  1. Calls patients ahead of their appointment, within hours you set on the patient's clock, and says who is calling.
  2. Asks them to confirm, move or cancel, and does not discuss treatment.
  3. Moves a cancelled appointment through your calendar and offers the slot to the next patient on your list.
  4. Leaves unconfirmed ones for the team, with the transcript.

The front desk sees which appointments are confirmed and which need a person, before the day starts.

05 — Immigration and tax adviser · Madrid

Taking in new enquiries from foreign residents

Newly arrived residents ring in English with the same first questions. The agent takes the details and books a consultation, and is set never to give legal or tax advice.

  1. Asks the nature of the enquiry, nationality, whether they are already resident, and the best contact time.
  2. Answers practical questions about your fees structure and opening hours from the documents you provide.
  3. Books the first consultation through Cal.com.
  4. Says plainly that an adviser will answer legal questions.

Every new client enquiry arrives written down and sorted, without an adviser stopping work to take it.

06 — Physiotherapy clinic · Bilbao

Rescheduling patients in Spanish or Basque

Patients call to move sessions, usually when the physiotherapist is treating someone. The agent handles the change in Spanish or Basque and fills freed slots.

  1. Greets in the language you set and asks for name and appointment.
  2. Offers the next open slots from the calendar and confirms the new one.
  3. Offers the freed slot to the waiting list.
  4. Passes clinical questions to the clinic team without advising.

Changes get done in the patient's language without interrupting treatment.

07 — Garage (taller) · Zaragoza

Reminding customers that their car inspection is due

The garage helps customers with the ITV, the compulsory vehicle inspection, and with servicing. It phones existing customers whose inspection or service is coming due and books them in.

  1. Calls only existing customers, at hours you set, saying who is calling and why.
  2. Offers dates for the service or the inspection run, and books the slot.
  3. Marks anyone who asks not to be called on your do-not-contact list.
  4. Retries unanswered calls within the hours you set, and detects voicemail on Plivo and Telnyx numbers.

The workshop calendar fills from customers it already knows, with a record of who declined.

08 — Veterinary clinic · Madrid

Routing urgent animal calls to the vet on duty

Animal owners ring in a panic, outside surgery hours. The agent separates urgent cases from routine ones and passes the urgent ones to the vet on duty.

  1. Asks the animal, the problem in a few words and the owner's number.
  2. Transfers urgent cases to the on-call vet (on a Plivo or Telnyx number) or flags them at once.
  3. Books routine visits through Cal.com and answers opening-hours questions.
  4. Leaves a transcript for the morning team.

Emergencies reach a person quickly and routine calls are queued for the morning.

In practice

How voice ai is used in Spain.

  • We found no reliable national figure for how often small businesses in Spain miss calls, so this page makes no claim about it. The cases above come from the structure of Spanish tourism, services and clinics, not from a statistic.
  • A large share of calls in tourist areas come from visitors and foreign residents. Voice agents speak Spanish, Catalan, Basque, Galician and English, and French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch and many more.
  • Many businesses take a long midday break, so set calling hours on the called person's clock with that in mind. This is a custom, not a rule.
  • Use your own Spanish number, imported from a Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account you hold; we do not sell Spanish numbers.

Plainly

What this will not do for you in Spain.

So you can rule it in or out before you start.

  • Voice works in Catalan, Basque and Galician, but we have not tested regional varieties such as Valencian; have a local speaker listen first.
  • Transfer to a person and voicemail detection do not work on an imported Twilio number; use Plivo or Telnyx for those.
  • We do not sell Spanish numbers, and the product does not collect consent or screen against the Lista Robinson.
  • The agent does not give medical, legal or tax advice, and does not confirm availability or prices that are not in your material.

The rules

The rules that apply in Spain.

The rules differ by country and change; you are responsible for following them where you operate.

Sales and follow-up calls

The right not to receive unwanted commercial calls is in article 66.1.b of Ley 11/2022, the General Telecommunications Law. The AEPD's Circular 1/2023 (BOE, 28 June 2023) says such calls can rest on consent or a legitimate interest you have weighed beforehand, that commercial calls to randomly generated numbers need prior consent, that you must tell people at the start who you are, that the call is commercial and that they may object, and that any clear objection must be acted on at once. Article 23 of Ley Organica 3/2018 (LOPDGDD) requires you to consult advertising exclusion systems, such as the Lista Robinson, before direct marketing, unless the person has consented to your business. We could not verify how an AI voice agent is classified under paragraph 66.1.a (automated calls, outside the Circular), so plan on the stricter view. A resolution of 14 April 2026 (BOE, 16 April 2026) reserves the 400 number range for outbound commercial calls by companies covered by Ley 10/2025; check whether it applies to you. Confirmation and reminder calls to your own customers are different from sales calls, but whether a given call is commercial is for your adviser. Read the official text; not legal advice.

Customer-service law and a person on the line

Ley 10/2025 of 26 December 2025 (BOE, 27 December 2025) covers certain sectors (water, gas, electricity, passenger transport, postal, electronic communications, financial services) and larger companies (250 or more employees, more than 50 million euros of turnover or more than 43 million euros of balance sheet, alone or in a group). Article 8 forbids answering machines or similar means as the only channel and says a chatbot or similar tool must let the customer ask for a person; companies have twelve months from entry into force to adapt. If that is you, set a transfer to a person on a Plivo or Telnyx number and take advice. Read the official text; not legal advice.

Recording, calling hours and data

Recording is a per-agent switch, off by default; if you record, say so at the start. The Circular points to the GDPR transparency duties (articles 13 and 14) and recommends recording calls as proof of how you followed the rules. The platform sets no calling window of its own, you set hours per campaign, and we did not find a national calling-hours rule in the texts we read. We support region deployments for enterprise customers. Calls are also processed partly in other countries under transfer safeguards. Read the official text; not legal advice.

Read on 25 October 2026. Read the official text; this is not legal advice.

Questions

Common questions.

Which languages can a voice agent use in Spain?

+
Spanish, Catalan, Basque, Galician and English, plus French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch and many more. Test with a native speaker before you connect your number.

Can I use my existing Spanish number?

+
Yes, if it is on a Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account you hold, or you forward calls to one. We do not sell Spanish numbers.

Is it allowed to make sales calls with an AI agent in Spain?

+
That depends on consent or a weighed legitimate interest, the exclusion lists and how an AI call is classified, which we could not verify. Take advice; the product does not screen or collect consent.

Does it record calls?

+
Only if you switch recording on for that agent. Every call has a transcript and an outcome either way.

Where is the data stored?

+
Each workspace keeps its data in the region it is set up in. We support region deployments for enterprise customers. Ask your data-protection adviser what your own situation requires.
