How Can a Business in Nepal Use an AI Phone Agent?
Short answer: a business in Nepal can use an AI phone agent to answer every call, take bookings and enquiries, and pass urgent calls to a person, while the same agent replies on WhatsApp. On the international deployment, which is where a workspace opened from Nepal normally goes, voice agents speak English and Hindi, not Nepali. Nepali voice is available on our India deployment, where Nepali is one of the 22 scheduled Indian languages. If Nepali on the phone matters to you, write to hello@thinnest.ai before you build.
Which deployment is for a business in Nepal?
ThinnestAI runs two deployments, and a new workspace is placed automatically from the visitor's country. Here is what differs, as it matters for Nepal:
| International | India | |
|---|---|---|
| Voice languages | 50, including English and Hindi. Nepali is not among them | The 22 scheduled Indian languages, including Nepali, plus English |
| Billing | US dollars, by card | Indian rupees |
| Phone numbers | Import your own from Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo | Buy an Indian number, or import your own |
The India deployment is a separate service, so it is not a setting you switch on in an international workspace. Whether it suits a business in Nepal, with its rupee billing and Indian-number options, is a conversation worth having: write to hello@thinnest.ai with what the agent must do.
What does an AI phone agent do for a Nepali business?
It answers the calls you would otherwise miss and handles them like a good front desk: a booking, a message, an answer from your price list, or a transfer to a person.
- Trekking and travel agencies (Kathmandu, Pokhara): early-morning calls from travellers in other time zones are taken down in full: route, dates, group size and an email to reply to. The agent does not quote safety or visa guarantees.
- Hotels and guesthouses (Pokhara lakeside, Thamel): room enquiries, check-in questions and directions, answered from the rates and house rules you upload, by phone and on WhatsApp.
- Clinics and dentists (Kathmandu, Lalitpur): appointments booked and moved; anything clinical goes to staff. See healthcare voice AI.
- Restaurants: table bookings and menu questions from the menu you upload. See restaurants.
- Online shops (Biratnagar, Butwal and beyond): order status on WhatsApp, and a call to confirm an order before it ships. See e-commerce.
How does a set-up work?
- List why people ring, your hours and who takes urgent calls.
- Add your material: website, rates, FAQs, and a Cal.com calendar for bookings.
- Choose an English or Hindi voice from the voice library after listening to previews.
- Write the opening line. It can name the business and say that calls may be recorded.
- Test from your browser with real questions, read the transcripts, and fix the gaps.
- Connect your number and go live in stages.
What do you need?
- A number on your own carrier account. On the international deployment the agent answers a number held on your Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account, or calls forwarded there. We do not sell Nepali numbers, and whether a carrier can offer a +977 number is for that carrier to say.
- A card for overseas payments. Your bank converts the US dollar charge and decides whether it allows it. Prices are on the pricing page.
- A WhatsApp Business API number for WhatsApp. See how to get the WhatsApp Business API in Nepal.
What should the opening line say?
Keep it short and plain. Name the business, say that the caller has reached an AI assistant, mention that the call may be recorded if you switch recording on, and ask how it can help. For example: this is the booking line for a lakeside hotel in Pokhara, you are speaking to an AI assistant, and the call may be recorded; how can I help? Callers from abroad, who are common for hotels and trekking agencies, need the same clarity in English. The opening line is yours to write, so it is also where you set the tone.
What are the limits?
- Nepali voice is not on the international deployment. We will not promise it there.
- Facebook Messenger and Instagram messages are not channels the agent answers.
- Transfer to a person works on Plivo and Telnyx numbers, not on an imported Twilio number.
- Nepal has a Privacy Act but no separate data-protection authority in the sources we read. See the rules post.
What should you do next?
See the Nepal page for examples and dated legal notes, and the AI receptionist page for a finished set-up. If you need Nepali on the phone, email hello@thinnest.ai first.
