How Can a Business in Pakistan Use an AI Phone Agent?

Short answer: a business in Pakistan can use an AI phone agent to answer every call in Urdu or English, book appointments, take orders and enquiries, and pass urgent calls to a person, while the same agent replies to customers on WhatsApp. It works best where the same questions repeat and a missed call loses real work: clinics, restaurants, online shops, property dealers and schools. Start with inbound calls, ring the agent yourself, and only then think about outbound campaigns, which have their own rules.

What problem does an AI phone agent solve?

Most small businesses do not lose customers because their service is poor. They lose them because the phone rings while everyone is busy: the doctor is with a patient, the restaurant is at its dinner rush, the dealer is at a viewing. The caller does not leave a message. They ring the next number on the list.

An AI phone agent picks up, speaks to the caller in their language, writes down what they need and finishes what it can finish: a booking, an answer from your price list, a callback request. Anything it should not handle goes to a person.

Which Pakistani businesses get the most from it?

BusinessTypical callsWhat the agent finishesWatch out for
Clinics and dentists (Lahore, Karachi)Appointments, doctor timings, feesBooks and moves appointmentsNo medical advice; urgent symptoms go straight to a person
Restaurants (Karachi, Islamabad)Table bookings, delivery areas, menu questionsTakes the booking or the order detailsIngredient answers must come word for word from the menu you upload
Online shopsOrder status, address checks, cash-on-delivery confirmationConfirms the order before it shipsRefunds and exchanges go to a person
Property dealers (Islamabad, Rawalpindi)Plot and rental enquiries, viewing requestsNotes area, budget and buy or rent; books a viewingListings change daily, so keep the knowledge current
Schools and academiesAdmissions, fees, batch timingsTakes the enquiry and books a visitFee changes must reach the agent the same day

Industry call flows are on the healthcare, restaurants, e-commerce, real estate and education pages.

How does it work, step by step?

  1. Write down why people ring. List the ten most common reasons, your opening hours and who takes urgent calls.
  2. Give the agent your material. Point it at your website, upload your price list and FAQs, and connect a calendar through Cal.com if you take bookings.
  3. Choose a voice and a language. Urdu or English, picked from the voice library after you listen to a preview.
  4. Write the opening line. It is yours to write, so it can name the business and say that calls may be recorded.
  5. Test it. Ring it from your browser with the questions real customers ask, then read the transcripts.
  6. Connect your number and go live in stages. Evenings and weekends first, then overflow during the day.

Which languages does it speak?

Voice agents speak Urdu and English, and Hindi too if some of your callers prefer it. Replies on WhatsApp and website chat run in 37 languages, and Urdu is one of them. Punjabi, Sindhi and Pashto voice agents are not offered. The next post in this series, what an Urdu AI phone agent can and cannot do, goes into detail.

What do you need to start?

  • A number you hold with a carrier. The agent answers a number on your own Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account. We do not sell Pakistani numbers, and whether a carrier can give you a +92 number is for that carrier to say. You can also forward calls from your existing number to one you hold there.
  • A card that works for overseas payments. Paid plans are billed in US dollars by card. Your bank converts the charge, and only your bank can say whether it allows it. Prices are on the pricing page.
  • A WhatsApp Business API number if you want the same agent on WhatsApp. See WhatsApp Business API.

What are the limits?

  • Facebook Messenger and Instagram messages are not channels the agent answers. The channels are phone, WhatsApp, website chat and Telegram.
  • Transfer to a person and voicemail detection work on Plivo and Telnyx numbers. An imported Twilio number answers and records but cannot transfer.
  • Pakistan has no comprehensive data-protection law in the sources we read, so ask your adviser what you owe your customers.
  • Outbound marketing calls and messages are a different matter from answering your own inbound calls. Read the rules for AI outbound calls in Pakistan before you start.

What should you do next?

See the Pakistan page for the Urdu voices, examples from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, and the dated legal notes. Then build one agent for your busiest call type and ring it before a customer does. The AI receptionist page shows what a finished set-up looks like.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the agent take calls in Urdu?

+
Yes. Voice agents speak Urdu and English. You pick a voice from the voice library, listen to a preview and the agent uses it on every call.

Do I need a new phone number?

+
Not necessarily. The agent answers a number held on your own Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account, and you can forward calls from your existing number to it. We do not sell Pakistani numbers.

Can it also reply to customers on WhatsApp?

+
Yes. Connect a WhatsApp Business API number and the same agent answers there, with one memory of each customer matched by phone number. Urdu is among the 37 languages for chat and WhatsApp replies.

Will it work with Facebook and Instagram messages?

+
No. Facebook Messenger and Instagram are not channels the agent answers. If you sell mainly there, plan to move customers to WhatsApp or your website.

How is it billed from Pakistan?

+
In US dollars, by card, through a merchant of record. Your bank converts the charge and decides whether overseas card payments are allowed. Prices are on the pricing page.
