What Can an Indonesian-Language AI Phone Agent Do, and What Can't It?

Short answer: an Indonesian-language AI phone agent can answer calls in Bahasa Indonesia, follow a conversation, answer from your documents, take bookings and messages, and pass the call to a person. Voice agents here speak Indonesian, Malay and English; regional languages such as Javanese, Sundanese and Balinese are not offered. Treat any claim about "perfect" local speech with caution, including ours: test the agent on your own callers, names and street addresses before you rely on it.

Which languages does the voice agent speak?

The voice agent speaks 50 languages, and the list includes Indonesian, Malay and English. You choose the voice from a searchable library: filter by language, accent, gender and age, and listen to a sample before you pick. The library's accent options differ by language, so listen rather than assume.

Chat and WhatsApp replies are a different list, of 37 languages. It includes Indonesian and does not include Malay, so a Malay-speaking customer who writes on WhatsApp is answered in Indonesian or English.

What can it do on a call?

  • Answer questions from your website, uploaded documents and pasted text: opening hours, services, delivery areas, fees.
  • Take a booking into a calendar through Cal.com, or into your system through its API.
  • Take a message or capture a lead: name, number, what they want, written into the call record while the call is in progress.
  • Transfer to a person on Plivo and Telnyx numbers. An imported Twilio number answers and records but cannot transfer.
  • Call out for reminders and follow-ups from a spreadsheet, with calling hours you set per campaign. See the rules below.
  • Remember the customer across WhatsApp, chat and phone, matched by phone number.

What can it not do?

You might expectThe honest answer
Speak Javanese, Sundanese, Minangkabau or BalineseNo. Those are not among the voice languages.
Reply in Malay on WhatsAppNo. Malay is a voice language, not one of the 37 chat languages.
Switch between Indonesian and English mid-callNot something we promise. Set the agent to the language you want, and for English speakers build a second agent on its own line.
Understand every dialect and accentNo. Test with callers from the regions you serve.
Give you a +62 numberNo. You bring a number from your own Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account.
Hold data in IndonesiaNo.

How do you test it on real Indonesian callers?

  1. Ring it from a phone, not the browser, once your number is connected. Phone audio is what your customers will hear and what the agent will have to understand.
  2. Use real inputs. Street names with Jalan, Gang, RT and RW; mobile numbers read aloud in groups; names of your staff and products; prices said the way people say them.
  3. Ask staff from different regions to call. A caller from Medan and one from Yogyakarta will not sound alike.
  4. Read the transcripts. Every call has one. Where the agent misheard a name or number, add a spelling guide to its instructions, or make it read the details back.
  5. Set the handover. Decide the sentence at which it gives up and passes the call to a person.

We publish no accuracy figure for Indonesian speech recognition and no response-time figure, so there is nothing to compare; your own test calls are the evidence.

Which rules apply to calling people?

Answering your own customers' calls is the simpler case. For outbound calls, Indonesian rules depend on your sector. For banks, lenders, insurers and similar firms, the financial regulator OJK bars offering products over personal channels such as phone and SMS without the person's consent (POJK 22/2023, in force from 22 December 2023). The platform does not screen numbers against any register and sets no calling window of its own; you keep your own do-not-contact list and set the hours for each campaign on the called person's clock. Read the official texts; this is not legal advice. Read on 25 October 2026.

Who is it a good fit for?

It suits businesses whose calls are mostly Indonesian or English and follow a pattern: clinics, shops, property agents, hotels and villas, schools and delivery firms. It is not the right tool if most of your callers speak a regional language, if you need your data held in Indonesia, or if you need to take payments in rupiah by transfer or e-wallet.

Your next step

Start on the Indonesia page or the voice AI agent page, build a test agent for your most common call, and ring it with three colleagues from different cities. The AI receptionist page shows the setup in full.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it speak Bahasa Indonesia?

+
Yes. Indonesian is one of the voice languages, along with Malay and English. You choose a voice from a library you can filter and listen to first.

Can it speak Javanese or Sundanese?

+
No. Regional languages are not among the voice languages. Callers using them are best served by a person, or by an agent set to Indonesian that you have tested with them.

Can one agent handle Indonesian and English callers?

+
We do not promise mid-call switching. Set each agent to one language and build a second agent for English-speaking callers on its own number or line.

Do you give me an Indonesian phone number?

+
No. You connect a number from your own Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account, or forward calls to one.

Is there a number for how accurate it is?

+
No. We publish no accuracy figure for Indonesian speech. Test it on your own callers and read the transcripts.
