WhatsApp Business API Pricing in India (2026): What You Actually Pay
Almost every confused conversation about WhatsApp Business API pricing comes from treating it as one number. It is two, and they behave differently.
Bill one: Meta charges per conversation
Meta sets those rates, publishes them, and changes them when it likes. Every provider on earth passes on the same Meta invoice. If a platform quotes you a conversation rate, that is Meta's number, not theirs — so it is not the thing to compare providers on.
What is worth understanding is that Meta prices by category, not by message. A marketing conversation costs more than a utility one. A service conversation — you replying to someone who messaged you first — is the cheapest of the three. Which means the single biggest lever on your Meta bill is not your provider. It is how much of your volume is you answering people versus you starting conversations.
Bill two: what the software costs
This is the part that actually differs, and it comes in three shapes:
- Per seat. A monthly fee that includes N users, with more users costing extra. Predictable if your headcount is stable; expensive the month you add three people to the inbox.
- Per subscriber. Tiers by how many contacts you hold. Fine until a good campaign pushes you into the next tier.
- Per use. No monthly platform fee; you pay for what you send and answer.
None of these is dishonest. They suit different businesses. The mistake is comparing a seat price against a usage price without modelling your own volume first.
Three places the maths surprises people
1. The automation is often an add-on
Several platforms sell the inbox at one price and the AI agent or chatbot builder as a separate monthly line, sometimes with its own message allowance on top. That is a legitimate way to price software — but it means the number on the pricing page is not the number on your invoice. Add the automation you actually intend to switch on before you compare.
2. WhatsApp calling is metered differently from a phone call
This one catches people out constantly. A call over WhatsApp and a call over a phone line are not billed the same way, because Meta meters its leg of a WhatsApp call by the whole minute. A 30-second pulse is simply not available on that channel.
On ThinnestAI that means WhatsApp calls are ₹2.5 a minute billed by the whole minute, while our own phone lines are ₹2 a minute billed in 30-second pulses. A 40-second call on a phone line bills as 60 seconds. The same 40 seconds over WhatsApp bills as a full minute. Do not carry one rate across to the other channel — it is the most common quoting error we see.
3. Free tiers end at the wrong moment
A trial that gives you a fixed number of replies is useful for evaluating, and useless for forecasting. What you want to know before committing is the cost of a bad month: a campaign that goes well and triples your inbound. Model that, not the happy path.
What "get the WhatsApp Business API free" actually means
You will see this everywhere, including on our own site, so it is worth being precise. It means there is no fee to get access — no setup charge for connecting your number to Meta's Cloud API. It has never meant the messages are free. Meta's conversation charges apply from the first message either way.
How we price it
Pay As You Go has no monthly platform fee and no minimum. Voice is ₹2 a minute all-inclusive on our own lines — telephony, speech recognition, the model and the voice are all in that rate, with no per-language surcharge. WhatsApp calls are ₹2.5 a minute by the whole minute, for the metering reason above. Chat replies are usage-based. Scale is ₹4,999 a month if you want team workspaces, white-label branding and ten concurrent calls. Enterprise is negotiated, and we do not publish a per-minute rate for it.
The agent is included rather than sold as an add-on with its own allowance. That is a deliberate choice, not a discount — an agent you are metering is an agent you switch off, and an agent you switch off does not answer anybody at 2am.
Full numbers are on the pricing page, and the WhatsApp Business API page covers what you get with access.
