In-App AI Agent

An in-app AI agent is an AI assistant that lives inside a website or mobile app, sees the screen the user is on, and helps them finish — answering, filling in forms and pointing the way.

Definition

An in-app AI agent is an AI assistant built into a website or mobile app that can see the screen the user is on — the form, its errors and the buttons — and act on it. Unlike a chat widget that only knows what the user typed, it answers about what is in front of the user, fills in fields, highlights the next step, runs the app's own actions, and steps in on its own when it notices the user is stuck. Well-designed ones never read secret fields and ask the user before pressing anything that pays or submits.

How it differs from a chatbot

A chatbot waits to be asked and knows only the conversation. An in-app AI agent also knows the screen: which step the user is on, which fields are empty, which error is showing. That lets it give a specific answer and fix the problem with the user instead of describing how to.

What it can do

  • See: headings, forms, field states, errors and buttons — ideally without the values the user typed.
  • Act: fill fields, choose options, tick boxes, press buttons, open pages, and run actions the app registers.
  • Notice: friction signals such as repeated errors, idle time and rage clicks, and offer help at that moment.
  • Talk: by chat or by voice, in the user's language.

Where it is used

Onboarding and KYC, loan and insurance applications, checkout, plan upgrades, feature adoption and support questions about a specific screen — anywhere users drop off between starting and finishing.
