Lead qualification · Nepal
How an AI agent qualifies leads in Nepal: three real-world examples
An AI agent qualifies a lead by asking the questions you put in its prompt, writing the answers down and ending with a next step: a booked slot, a scheduled callback or a handover to a person. The three made-up conversations below come from Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Pokhara, in English, because that is the voice language available on the international deployment; Nepali voice is on our India deployment only. The page also says what we could and could not verify about following up leads in Nepal.
Example 1 · Inbound call
Can the agent qualify a trekker who calls from another time zone?
Yes. It took the route, dates, group size, experience and budget, noticed the dates were close, and arranged a guide callback and a written quote the same day.
- Group: Two trekkers, from Melbourne
- Route: Annapurna Circuit, private guide and porter
- Dates: Arrive Kathmandu on the 20th, start from the 22nd
- Experience: Everest Base Camp, 2023
- Budget: About US dollars 1,500 each, excluding flights
- Next step: Guide callback and emailed quote
Example 2 · Outbound follow-up call
What does the agent do when a web-form lead says not now?
It said who it was, asked permission and, once it learned the lead was abroad until March, scheduled a call for then instead of arguing, and did not push a visit.
- Name: Sunita
- Need: About 4 aana in Lalitpur, to build a home
- Budget: Around Rs 80 lakh, probably with a loan
- Situation: Works in Qatar, home in March
- Next step: Callback in March, evening Nepal time
Example 3 · WhatsApp
Can the agent take a direct booking enquiry on WhatsApp?
It collected dates, rooms, guests and an airport pickup need, held a room, and handed the chat to reception to confirm the deposit.
- Guest: Arjun Rai, four adults
- Dates: 3 to 6 December
- Rooms: Two lake-view rooms, held
- Pickup: Pokhara airport, arriving 14:00 on the 3rd
- Next step: Reception confirms the deposit on WhatsApp
Questions to ask
What should the agent ask a lead in Nepal?
You write these into the agent's prompt, in your own words and in your customers' language.
| Question | Why it matters here |
|---|---|
| Which dates, and how flexible are they? | Tourism and travel run on dates. A fixed arrival or festival week makes a lead hot, and a flexible month tells you there is time to follow up. |
| How many people, and what has the group done before? | Group size sets the price and the staffing, and experience at altitude or on a route tells a trekking agency which itinerary is safe to offer. |
| What is the budget, and in which currency? | Visitors often think in US dollars, residents in Nepali rupees, and returning workers abroad in another currency. Asking which one avoids a mismatched quote. |
| For land or property: how much, in ropani or aana, and where? | Local land units and the area (Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kathmandu) set the price. Legal title is for the buyer's lawyer, so the agent should not comment on it. |
| Where are you now, and when can we reach you? | Many leads are abroad, for work or travel. Asking the time zone and a time that suits them, as the Qatar lead did, protects the callback from happening at a bad hour. |
| Own funds or a loan, and who else decides? | A bank loan or a family decision lengthens the path. It tells you whether to book a visit now or wait. |
| Is English or Hindi best on the call, and is WhatsApp fine for messages? | On the international deployment voice agents speak English and Hindi. Asking also records permission for WhatsApp before you send anything. |
Reading the outcome
Hot, warm or cold: what happens next.
The bands are the ones you describe in the prompt, then read off each call's outcome and transcript.
| Band | What it means | What you do next |
|---|---|---|
| Hot | Dates or a deadline close, a budget that fits, group or family decided and a number to reach. These bands are what you write into the agent's prompt and read off each outcome; ThinnestAI does not score leads for you. | Hand the lead to a person or book the next step the same day: a guide callback, a held room or a visit. Read the transcript first. |
| Warm | Interested, with one gap: the dates, the funds or a second decision-maker. | Schedule a callback inside the calling hours you set, on the lead's clock, and send what they asked for on WhatsApp if they agreed to it. |
| Cold | Only looking, abroad for months, or no dates or budget. | Do not chase. Offer a call for when they are back, as in March for the land lead, and add anyone who says stop to your do-not-contact list at once. |
The rules
What the rules say about following up a lead in Nepal.
Consent, do-not-call lists, calling hours and recording are set by local law, and you are responsible for them.
Calls, messages and consent
Nepal's telecom regulator is the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). In the sources we read we found no NTA rule on telemarketing or unsolicited calls, on calling hours for a business making its own calls, or on AI-voiced calls, so treat those as unsettled; the recent NTA warnings we found concern unauthorised international SMS routing. A DLA Piper overview says an advertisement-oriented SMS or email cannot be sent to a person without that person's consent, citing the Advertisement Act and its Regulation, and we did not find a Nepali rule that speaks to calls or WhatsApp specifically. The platform sets no calling window of its own and does not screen numbers against any register. Set calling hours per campaign on the called person's clock, keep your own do-not-contact list, and keep proof of when and how the lead asked to be contacted and of opt-in for WhatsApp marketing. Recording a call
A secondary summary says section 293 of the National Penal Code, 2074 bars using a mechanical device to record a conversation between two or more people without the consent of those involved or authorisation from the relevant authority. We have not read the section ourselves, so we state no more than that. Say in your opening line that a call may be recorded, as in the trekking example, and keep recording off unless you need it. Recording is a per-agent switch in ThinnestAI and is off by default. Read on 25 October 2026; ask a Nepali lawyer; not legal advice.
Privacy and where data is stored
The Individual Privacy Act, 2075 (2018) took effect on 18 September 2018, with the Individual Privacy Regulation, 2077 under it. Law-firm summaries say it requires consent and notice of purpose when personal information is collected, and the DLA Piper overview says no data-protection authority has been designated; complaints go to the district court or the police. An IT and cybersecurity bill was reported as tabled in August 2025; we could not confirm its status, so do not treat it as law. We support region deployments for enterprise customers. Ask your adviser what you owe your customers. Read on 25 October 2026; not legal advice.

Local notes
What is different in Nepal.
- Nepali voice is not one of the 50 voice languages on the international deployment. It is one of the 22 scheduled Indian languages on our India deployment (app.thinnest.ai). On the international deployment, voice agents speak English and Hindi, as in the examples here. If you need Nepali on the phone, write to hello@thinnest.ai before you build.
- For Nepali-language chat or WhatsApp replies, ask us at hello@thinnest.ai before you plan around it. Test any language with your own leads' real messages.
- Many leads are travellers or Nepalis working abroad. Ask where they are and what time suits them, and set the callback in their local time. Facebook Messenger and Instagram messages are not channels the agent answers, so give those leads a phone or WhatsApp number.
- The agent uses a number you hold on your own Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account on the international deployment; whether a carrier can offer a +977 number is for that carrier to say. Paid plans there are billed in US dollars by card.
