Voice AI platforms compared, for Indonesian businesses
For an Indonesian business the choice comes down to five checks: whether the agent speaks Bahasa Indonesia on calls and on WhatsApp, whether you can keep your number, how marketing calls sit with consent and the OJK rules for financial firms, what the PDP Law means for recordings and customer data, and what currency you are billed in. This page puts ThinnestAI beside three developer platforms on those checks, with the sources and the date we read them.
What to check
Five things to check before you choose, in Indonesia.
Put the last column to every supplier you are weighing, ThinnestAI included.
| Check | Why it matters in Indonesia | ThinnestAI | Ask any supplier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bahasa Indonesia on calls and WhatsApp | Customers write to shops in Bahasa Indonesia, often in a register such as Kak or Bapak and Ibu, while guests at a Bali villa ring in English from airports and taxis. | Voice agents speak Indonesian, Malay and English, and you listen to a voice before you choose it. WhatsApp replies run in 37 languages that include Indonesian but not Malay, so a Malay speaker on WhatsApp is answered in Indonesian or English. Javanese, Sundanese and Balinese are not voice languages. | Which languages can the agent speak on a call, and is the WhatsApp reply language the same list? |
| A number you can keep | A clinic in Jakarta or a freight office in Surabaya already has a +62 number on its signboard and its listings, and moving to a new one costs enquiries. | Connect a number from your own Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account, or forward calls from your operator to one. We don't sell or rent Indonesian numbers, and whether a carrier can give you a +62 number is for that carrier to say. Telnyx calls only the countries switched on in your outbound voice profile, so add Indonesia before you call out. | Can the agent answer the number my customers already ring, and which carrier accounts does it connect to? |
| Consent and outbound calling | Prior consent is the rule for marketing. For banks, lenders and insurers, OJK's POJK 22/2023 bars offering products by phone or SMS without consent. The sources we read showed no national do-not-call register for ordinary businesses, which is not permission to cold-call (read 25 October 2026). | You set calling hours per campaign on the called person's clock, which matters across Indonesia's three time zones, and keep your own do-not-contact list. The agent checks no register and holds no consent record for you. We do not suggest debt-collection calls here. | Can I stop calls outside the hours I set, and who holds the proof of consent before a campaign runs? |
| Personal data and recording | Law No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection applies to the business collecting the data. Its transition ended on 17 October 2024 and Government Regulation No. 33 of 2026 takes effect on 16 January 2027 (read 25 October 2026). The sources we read did not settle how the law treats recording a call you are part of. | Recording is a per-agent switch that stays off until you turn it on, and the opening line is yours to write, so it can say the call is recorded and why. We make no claim that the product meets any Indonesian law. We support region deployments for enterprise customers; the privacy policy covers processing that involves other countries, and your adviser can say how the transfer rules apply to you. | Is recording off by default, and what do you tell me in writing about processing outside Indonesia? |
| WhatsApp, marketplaces and billing | Leads from Instagram, ads and websites usually end up on WhatsApp, while chats inside Tokopedia and Shopee sit in separate inboxes. | One agent answers the phone, WhatsApp, website chat and Telegram, with one memory of each customer. It does not read marketplace chats. Billing is in US dollars by card, not rupiah, bank transfer or e-wallet, and your bank converts the charge. | Does the agent read my marketplace chats, and can you invoice me in rupiah? |

Other options
Other kinds of supplier in Indonesia.
Kinds of supplier, not companies. Each is the right call for someone.
A staffed answering service
Indonesian-speaking staff can judge a worried caller and speak regional languages such as Javanese, Sundanese or Balinese, which an AI voice agent cannot. They cannot answer many callers at once at midnight.
A WhatsApp-only provider
A provider built around WhatsApp can run templates, broadcasts and a shared inbox for an online shop. It leaves the phone to another tool, so a booking that starts in chat and ends on a call has two histories.
Building on a developer platform
Engineers can join speech, language-model, voice and telephony providers into an agent of their own design and tune each part. You own the testing, the WhatsApp side and the billing for every piece.
Plainly
Who should pick what.
ThinnestAI fits when
- You run villas, hotels or cafes in Bali and need guest enquiries in Indonesian and English answered the same night, on the phone and WhatsApp, with one history per guest.
- You run an online shop and want order and shipping questions answered on WhatsApp in Bahasa Indonesia, with a shared inbox where staff take over refunds and complaints.
- You are an agency that wants to resell the agent under your own brand, domain and prices; white label comes with every paid plan.
Something else fits better when
- Your callers speak Javanese, Sundanese, Balinese or another regional language. Use a person or a supplier that covers it; we do not offer those as voice languages.
- Most of your selling happens inside Tokopedia or Shopee chats, or you must pay in rupiah by bank transfer or e-wallet. We read no marketplace inboxes and bill in US dollars by card.
- You are a bank, lender or collections team contacting borrowers. OJK regulates how financial firms contact customers, so take that advice before you pick any tool.
