Voice AI use cases in India
A voice AI agent answers and makes the phone calls an Indian team would otherwise handle by hand, in Hindi, English, Hinglish or any of the 22 scheduled languages. These eight use cases come from businesses that live on the phone: labs, clinics, dealerships, lenders, developers, schools, couriers and hospitals. Each one names the calling rules to keep in mind.
Eight use cases
How businesses in India use voice ai.
Fictional businesses in real places, to show what the agent does with calls.
01 — Diagnostic lab · Kothrud, Pune
Booking home sample collection when the lab line is busy
Morning is when a lab's phones jam: people want a blood test at home before breakfast. The agent answers every call in Marathi, Hindi or English, takes the tests and the address, and books a collection slot.
- Answers in the caller's language and asks which tests, from the lab's test list in the knowledge base.
- Asks the area, flat and preferred slot, and books it through Cal.com.
- Gives preparation instructions the lab has written, such as fasting.
- Hands report and billing questions to a person, or schedules a callback.
Callers who would have hung up on a busy line get a slot, and staff handle only what needs a person.
02 — Multi-specialty clinic · T. Nagar, Chennai
Reminding patients the evening before, in Tamil
Missed appointments leave a doctor's slot empty. The agent rings patients the evening before, confirms in Tamil or English, and rebooks anyone who cannot come.
- Runs an outbound campaign for the next day's appointments, inside the calling hours you set.
- Says who is calling, confirms the time and asks whether the patient will attend.
- Moves a cancellation to another slot through Cal.com, or schedules a callback.
- Skips patients on the do-not-contact list and does not re-dial anyone who declines.
The front desk sees confirmed, moved and unanswered appointments in the morning instead of ringing each patient.
03 — Two-wheeler dealership · Navrangpura, Ahmedabad
Taking service-booking calls in Gujarati
A dealership's service desk gets calls all day for slots, status and prices. The agent books service appointments, answers from the service price list, and passes a bike that will not start to a mechanic.
- Answers in Gujarati or Hinglish and asks for the model, registration number and complaint.
- Answers standard-service questions from the knowledge base.
- Books the workshop slot through Cal.com.
- Transfers a breakdown to a person, where the number supports transfer.
The service desk spends its time on bikes instead of on the phone.
04 — Two-wheeler lender · Indore
Instalment reminders that stop when the customer says they have paid
Before an EMI date, the agent calls to remind the borrower politely in Hindi. It is a reminder, not a recovery call: if the borrower says they have paid, it stops, and if they dispute the amount, a person takes over.
- Runs a reminder campaign inside calling hours you set on the borrower's clock.
- Identifies the company and the purpose, and gives the due date from the data you upload.
- Records the borrower's answer, such as paid, will pay on a date, or disputes.
- Escalates disputes and distress to a person and never re-dials a refusal.
Honest reminders go out on time and the cases that need a person reach one with the borrower's answer already recorded.
05 — Real-estate developer · Gachibowli, Hyderabad
Confirming site visits for people who asked for a call
A buyer fills in a form for a project call. The agent rings back in Telugu or English, confirms interest and books a site visit, and records the buyer's budget and loan status for the sales team.
- Calls in the hours you set, says who is calling and why, and offers to stop.
- Asks purpose, budget, loan pre-approval and preferred day.
- Books the visit through Cal.com or schedules a callback.
- Saves the transcript and outcome for the sales team.
Sales spends site-visit time on buyers who have already said what they want.
06 — CBSE school · Gomti Nagar, Lucknow
Answering fee and admission questions in Hindi during the season
During admission season, one office phone cannot keep up. The agent answers from the school's prospectus, tells parents the documents needed, and books campus visits.
- Answers from the school's admission pages and uploaded documents.
- Asks the child's class and the year of admission.
- Books a campus visit through Cal.com.
- Hands fee negotiation and special cases to the admissions office.
Parents get an answer on the first call and the office handles visits, not repeat questions.
07 — E-commerce courier · Gurugram
Calling before a cash-on-delivery attempt
Failed COD deliveries cost a courier a second trip. Before the attempt, the agent calls the customer to confirm the address and whether they will be home with the cash.
- Calls from the delivery list in the hours you set, in the customer's language.
- Confirms address, landmark and a time window.
- Records "will be home", "reschedule to" or "refuses" and sends it by signed webhook.
- Moves a reschedule to the next day's list.
The dispatcher plans routes around confirmed deliveries, not guesses.
08 — Hospital outpatient department · Salt Lake, Kolkata
Collecting patient feedback after an outpatient visit in Bengali
After a visit, the agent calls to ask two or three questions in Bengali and records the answers as a transcript. Anything that sounds like a medical problem goes to a nurse.
- Calls the day after the visit, inside the hours you set.
- Asks the questions you wrote and listens to the answers.
- Escalates a complaint or worrying symptom to a person.
- Saves each call's transcript and outcome for the quality team.
The quality team reads real patient comments instead of a tick-box tally.
In practice
How voice ai is used in India.
- Hinglish is normal on Indian calls, and the agent handles Hindi and English in one sentence. All 22 scheduled languages are available, plus English with an Indian accent in the voice library.
- Promotional calls in India go out from registered 140-series numbers, and TRAI told regulated lenders and insurers in July 2026 to use 1600-series numbers for service and transaction calls to existing customers (TRAI press release, read 25 October 2026). Check with your number provider which you need.
- You can buy an Indian number from us or import one from Plivo, Vobiz, Twilio or Telnyx. We found no reliable national figure for how many people answer unknown numbers, so test with your own customers.
Plainly
What this will not do for you in India.
So you can rule it in or out before you start.
- It does not scrub numbers against the DND or NCPR register. Registering as a telemarketer or sender is your responsibility.
- The 22 scheduled languages do not include Bhojpuri, Tulu or Rajasthani. Test regional speech with real callers before you launch.
- An imported Twilio number answers and records, but cannot transfer a call or detect voicemail. Buy a number from us or use Plivo or Telnyx for those.
- It is not a collections service. Reminders must be honest, polite and inside the lender's own rules, and disputes belong with a person.
The rules
The rules that apply in India.
The rules differ by country and change; you are responsible for following them where you operate.
Hours, DND and number series
India's Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2018 (TCCCPR) limit promotional calls and SMS to 09:00 to 21:00 IST; transactional and service calls are not time-restricted, according to carrier guidance (TRAI summary and Exotel guide, read 25 October 2026). Recipients can block promotional calls on the DND register, and TRAI says promotional calls must use registered 140-series numbers. Content decides whether a call is promotional, not your intent. Whatever the category, we suggest setting every campaign inside 09:00 to 21:00. Read the official text; not legal advice.
Lenders, recording and personal data
A regulated lender should also read the RBI's rules on recovery calls; our collections guide notes an 8 am to 7 pm limit, which we have not re-verified for this page. Recording is a per-agent switch, off by default. India's Digital Personal Data Protection Rules were notified on 13 November 2025, with notice-and-consent duties phasing in around May 2027 according to law-firm summaries (read 25 October 2026; confirm in the Gazette).
Read on 25 October 2026. Read the official text; this is not legal advice.
