Voice AI platforms compared, for Indian businesses
For an Indian business the choice comes down to five checks: whether you can get or keep an Indian number, whether the agent speaks your customers' languages including Hinglish, how outbound calls sit with TRAI's hours and the DND register, whether WhatsApp is part of the same agent, and whether you are billed in rupees with a GST invoice. This page puts ThinnestAI beside three developer platforms on those checks, with the sources and the date we read them.
What to check
Five things to check before you choose, in India.
Put the last column to every supplier you are weighing, ThinnestAI included.
| Check | Why it matters in India | ThinnestAI | Ask any supplier |
|---|---|---|---|
| An Indian number, bought or imported | Promotional calls in India go out from registered 140-series numbers, and TRAI told regulated lenders and insurers in July 2026 to use 1600-series numbers for service and transaction calls to existing customers (TRAI press release, read 25 October 2026). | Buy an Indian number inside the platform, or import one from Plivo, Vobiz, Twilio or Telnyx; one agent can call out from numbers on several providers. Transfer to a person and voicemail detection work on numbers bought here and on Plivo and Telnyx numbers, but not on an imported Twilio number. Check with your number provider which series you need. | Can I buy an Indian number from you as well as bring my own, and which number series can it call from? |
| Languages and Hinglish | Callers mix Hindi and English inside one sentence, and a lender in Indore, a clinic in Chennai and a school in Lucknow each need a different language on the line. | All 22 scheduled languages plus English, with Hinglish code-switching and an Indian-accent English voice in the library. Bhojpuri, Tulu and Rajasthani are not among the 22, so test regional speech with real callers before you launch. | Can one call move between Hindi and English, and can I hear my customers' own language before I commit? |
| Outbound calling rules | TRAI's TCCCPR 2018 limit promotional calls and SMS to 09:00 to 21:00 IST, recipients can block promotional calls on the DND register, and transactional and service calls are not time-restricted according to carrier guidance (read 25 October 2026). Content decides which kind a call is, not your intent. | You set calling hours per campaign on the called person's clock; we suggest 09:00 to 21:00. You keep your own do-not-contact list and handle telemarketer registration where it applies. The agent does not scrub numbers against DND or NCPR and holds no consent record. | Who scrubs my list against the DND register before a campaign runs, and can I stop calls outside the hours I set? |
| Recording and personal data | India's Digital Personal Data Protection Rules were notified on 13 November 2025, with notice-and-consent duties phasing in around May 2027 according to law-firm summaries (read 25 October 2026; confirm in the Gazette). | Recording is a per-agent switch that stays off until you turn it on, and the opening line is yours to write, so it can say who is calling and that it is an automated assistant. Each call gets a transcript and an outcome. We support region deployments for enterprise customers; ask your own adviser what the DPDP Act means for you. | Is recording off by default, and what do you put in writing about how my customers' call data is handled? |
| WhatsApp and billing | WhatsApp is the normal way many Indian small businesses and customers message each other, so a lead often starts there from an ad or a QR code. | One agent answers the phone, WhatsApp, website chat and Telegram, with one memory of each customer. The official WhatsApp Business API runs inside the platform, with templates, broadcasts and a shared inbox. Billing is in rupees by UPI or card, with GST invoices. | Are WhatsApp templates and the shared inbox in the same product as the voice agent, and do I get a GST invoice? |

Other options
Other kinds of supplier in India.
Kinds of supplier, not companies. Each is the right call for someone.
An Indian cloud-telephony supplier
Suppliers of Indian virtual numbers, IVR menus and click-to-call are built around Indian numbers and the registrations that go with them. A key-press menu is the better call when a menu is all you need. It does not understand a spoken question in Marathi or take a booking.
A voice AI company built for the Indian market
Some Indian voice AI suppliers work as a managed service, with their team setting up and tuning the agent for you. That suits a business that wants to hand the project over. Ask what you can change yourself, and what happens to your number and call history if you leave.
Building on a developer platform
A team with engineers can join speech, language-model, voice and telephony providers into exactly the agent it wants, with the Indian number and registration work done on its own. That buys control and costs build time: you own the testing, the inbox and the billing for each part.
Plainly
Who should pick what.
ThinnestAI fits when
- You want one agent in Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Bengali or Hinglish on both the phone and WhatsApp, with a shared inbox where your staff can take over.
- You want to buy an Indian number where you build the agent, or import one from Plivo, Vobiz, Twilio or Telnyx, and test the agent from your browser first.
- You are a small team that needs rupee billing with GST invoices, UPI or card, and campaigns whose calling hours you set.
Something else fits better when
- You need the supplier to scrub lists against the DND register or handle telemarketer registration for you. We do neither; use a supplier that does, or do it yourself.
- Your callers speak Bhojpuri, Tulu or Rajasthani, which are not among the 22 languages. Use staff who speak them, or test with real callers first.
- You want a collections service for a regulated lender. We are not one: reminders must be honest and polite, and disputes belong with a person.
