Can an AI Receptionist Answer in an Irish Accent for an Irish Small Business?
Short answer: yes, in English. A voice agent can answer your calls with an Irish accent, at any hour, on the number you already use, and the same agent can reply on WhatsApp and web chat. It books, takes messages and rings you for urgent matters. It suits sole traders, clinics, solicitors and guesthouses. It is a poor fit if you need Irish (Gaeilge): that is neither a voice language nor one of the 37 chat languages.
Who in Ireland misses calls?
Mostly the people who do the work themselves. A plumber in Cork under a sink when a leak call comes in from Douglas; a two-chair dental practice in Limerick with both hygienists busy; a solicitor in Kilkenny in a signing; a guesthouse owner in Galway making breakfast; a physiotherapist in Sligo with a patient on the table. Ireland's economy is full of small firms where the owner is the receptionist, and a missed call tends to go to the next name on the list.
What does the agent do on the call?
- Answers in English with an Irish accent. The voice library also has British, American and other English accents, so you can match the voice to your business. You listen before you pick.
- Books and moves appointments in your calendar through Cal.com, or in your own system through its API.
- Answers questions from your material: opening hours, service areas, what a visit involves, check-in times. It reads your website, files and pasted text.
- Triages by urgency: for a leak or a boiler failure it asks for the address and whether the water is off, then rings your on-call person or schedules a callback. You write the rules.
- Takes a message and keeps a transcript.
- Hands over to a person when you tell it to (transfer works on Plivo and Telnyx numbers, not on an imported Twilio number).
The same agent answers on WhatsApp and website chat, with one memory of the customer across channels. See the AI receptionist page.
What about Irish (Gaeilge)?
Irish is not supported. It is not among the 50 voice languages, and it is not one of the 37 languages for chat and WhatsApp replies. If your business serves a Gaeltacht community, the agent can greet and work in English; it cannot hold a conversation in Irish. We would rather say so than let you find out on a live call. If this matters to you, tell us at hello@thinnest.ai. What it can do is answer in Polish, Spanish, French, Portuguese and many more, which helps in a country where many customers have another first language.
How genuine will the accent sound?
We claim an Irish accent for English and nothing finer. We have not published how each voice sounds across Dublin, Cork, Galway or Belfast, and a "Cork" voice would be our word for something we have not tested. Ring the agent from the browser, read ten real questions from your inbox, including place names such as Kilkenny, Ballyshannon and Portlaoise, and ask someone local to say what sounds off. Place names are the usual weak point.
Can I keep my Irish number?
Yes, if the number sits on a Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account you hold, or you can port it or forward calls to one. We do not sell Irish numbers, and international workspaces cannot rent one from us. The simplest start is forwarding out-of-hours calls to a number on one of those accounts. For outbound calls on Telnyx, switch Ireland on in your outbound voice profile first; only the US and Canada are on by default.
What are the limits?
- The agent follows the instructions and material you give it. If your knowledge base is thin, its answers will be too.
- Callers with a strong accent or poor reception can still be misheard. Read the transcripts in the first weeks.
- Billing is in US dollars by card, not euros. See pricing.
- We support region deployments for enterprise customers, who can ask for a deployment in their own region.
- It does not replace a person for legal, clinical or tax advice.
How do I start?
- List the ten reasons people ring, in order of how often they happen.
- Load your website, price list and house rules into the knowledge base.
- Pick an Irish-accent voice and ring the agent from your browser.
- Forward out-of-hours calls to it first, then widen to busy periods.
