How Can One AI Agent Answer Customers on WhatsApp, the Phone and Your Website?

Short answer: build the agent once — its instructions, knowledge base and tools — and connect the same agent to your website chat widget, your WhatsApp number, a Telegram bot and a phone number. When someone calls, they are matched to their WhatsApp or chat history by phone number, so the agent can say "we've spoken on WhatsApp before." By default it does not repeat what was said until the person is verified, because anyone can call claiming to be your customer.

Why one agent beats one bot per channel

Customers don't think in channels. They ask a question on your website, follow up on WhatsApp and then ring when it's urgent. With a separate bot on each, every answer has to be written three times, they drift apart, and the customer starts over every time. With one agent, a change to a policy or a price is made once and every channel answers the same way — in all 22 scheduled Indian languages, from one knowledge base.

How it works, step by step

  1. Build the agent. Write its instructions, add your knowledge base, and connect the tools it needs — a calendar, your CRM, your order system.
  2. Connect the channels. Add the website widget with one script tag, connect WhatsApp through Meta's sign-up flow, paste a Telegram bot token, and give the agent a phone number for inbound and outbound calls. Visitors can also call from the browser.
  3. Every channel answers from the same source. On a call the agent speaks, on WhatsApp and chat it writes — but the instructions and knowledge behind every answer are the same.
  4. The agent recognises a returning customer. A caller is matched to their WhatsApp and web history by phone number, and the agent gets a short summary of recent messages from those other channels.
  5. A person can step in anywhere. Chat conversations go to the shared inbox; calls can be transferred to your team.

What the agent remembers — and what it won't say

  • Linked, not merged. A caller's records on each channel are linked by phone number, never merged into one, because caller ID can be spoofed.
  • Two-tier disclosure by default. The agent may say "we've spoken on WhatsApp before," but it withholds what was said until the person is verified. You can choose a more open setting that shows the content, or a stricter one that shows nothing until verification.
  • A summary, not a full archive. The agent sees a short digest of recent messages from other channels, not every past conversation on demand.
  • It answers where the customer is. The agent replies on the channel the customer used. It does not start a conversation with them on another channel by itself.

Which channels are included

Four: website chat, WhatsApp, Telegram and the phone (inbound, outbound and calls from the browser). Email is not an agent channel, and neither are Instagram, Messenger or SMS.

What you need to start

One agent, your WhatsApp Business number, a phone number and a line of script on your website. Cross-channel memory explains the disclosure settings, and the WhatsApp AI agent and voice AI agent pages cover each channel.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the agent remember a customer who switches from WhatsApp to a phone call?

+
Yes. A caller is matched to their WhatsApp and website history by phone number, and the agent gets a short summary of it. By default it will say you have spoken before but won't repeat what was said until the person is verified.

Why does the agent not repeat my earlier conversation on a call?

+
Because caller ID can be spoofed. Anyone could ring claiming to be you, so the default setting acknowledges the earlier conversation but withholds its content until you are verified.

Which channels can one agent answer on?

+
Website chat, WhatsApp, Telegram and phone calls, including calls from the browser. Email is not an agent channel.

Can the agent message a caller on WhatsApp after the call by itself?

+
No. The agent answers on the channel the customer uses. WhatsApp messages you want to send are set up separately as approved templates, broadcasts or sequences.

Do I need a separate knowledge base for each channel?

+
No. One knowledge base serves every channel and every language the agent speaks.
