Can an AI Phone Agent Answer in Vietnamese for Hotels, Clinics and Factories?
Short answer: yes. A voice agent can answer your calls in Vietnamese, English or Mandarin, at any hour, on a number you already hold. It books, takes messages, answers from your documents and passes calls to a person when you tell it to. We claim the Vietnamese language, not a regional accent: we have not published how each voice sounds for northern, central or southern speakers, so test one with callers from your own region before you rely on it.
Who in Vietnam gets calls the owner cannot take?
Most small businesses. A boutique hotel in Hoi An gets calls late in the evening from guests who have just booked a flight. A family clinic in Ho Chi Minh City, District 7, is busy at the front desk when the phone rings. A furniture factory in Binh Duong hears from buyers in other time zones, who ring in English or Mandarin when the office is closed. An English language centre in Hanoi talks to parents the moment class ends. A missed call in each case tends to go to the next name on the list.
What does the agent do on the call?
- Answers in the language you set and, if you instruct it, continues in the caller's. Voice agents speak Vietnamese, English and Mandarin, and many more, including Korean, Japanese and Thai, which matters for visitors from across Asia.
- Books and moves appointments in your calendar through Cal.com, or in your own system through its API.
- Answers from your material: room types, prices, treatment preparation, factory lead times, directions. It reads your website, files and pasted text.
- Takes a message with the details you need and keeps a transcript.
- Hands over to a person for complaints, emergencies and anything clinical (transfer works on Plivo and Telnyx numbers, not on an imported Twilio number).
What are the limits?
- Accent and tone. The agent speaks Vietnamese, but we make no claim about northern, central or southern speech, or about how a voice handles tones with a poor line. Read the transcripts in the first weeks and fix names and place names.
- Chat languages. WhatsApp and website chat replies run in 37 languages, and Vietnamese and English are among them. Mandarin is not.
- Zalo. We do not integrate with Zalo, so the agent cannot reply to Zalo messages. See Zalo or WhatsApp for how to split the work.
- No local number from us. International workspaces cannot rent numbers. You import a number from a Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo account you hold, and we have not verified which Vietnamese numbers those providers can hold or port in. The simplest start is forwarding your calls to a number you hold there.
- Judgement calls. If most of your calls need a human ear, such as a distressed patient, a person-answered service may suit you better.
How do I test a Vietnamese voice?
- Filter the voice library by Vietnamese and listen to three or four voices.
- Ring the agent from the browser and ask the ten questions customers ask most.
- Ask a native speaker from your region to ring it without a script, as they would speak at home, and to try a poor connection.
- Read the transcripts and fix the agent's instructions where it misheard.
- Forward only your out-of-hours calls first, then widen to busy periods.
Where is the data, and what about recording?
We support region deployments for enterprise customers. Calls are processed partly in other countries, under transfer safeguards. Vietnam's personal data law changed on 1 January 2026, so ask a Vietnamese adviser what you need to do; our Vietnam rules guide sets out what we read. Recording is a per-agent switch, off by default, and the opening line is yours to write, so tell callers if you record.
How do I start?
- List the ten reasons people ring you, in order of how often.
- Load your website, price list and house rules into the knowledge base.
- Pick a Vietnamese voice and an English voice, and ring the agent.
- Connect your number and forward calls when you are happy.
The Vietnam page has the languages, numbers and billing in one place; billing is in US dollars by card, and the pricing page has the plans. See the AI receptionist page for how the agent is set up.
