Voice AI use cases for businesses in Sri Lanka

A voice AI agent answers your phone in English or Tamil, books, takes messages and hands calls to a person. It does not speak Sinhala, so these eight Sri Lanka use cases are for callers who speak English or Tamil: guests, buyers, patients and Tamil-speaking customers.

Eight use cases

How businesses in Sri Lanka use voice ai.

Fictional businesses in real places, to show what the agent does with calls.

01 — Boutique hotel · Galle Fort

Answering overseas guests' calls after reception has closed

Guests abroad call in the evening. The agent takes dates, party size and transfer needs and leaves a clear request.

  1. Asks the dates, the number of guests and rooms.
  2. Answers breakfast and directions questions from the knowledge base.
  3. Takes a transfer request with the flight time.
  4. Leaves a transcript for reception.

Reception starts the morning with ready-to-confirm requests instead of missed calls.

02 — Airport transfer service · Negombo

Taking tour and transfer bookings with flight details

Arriving passengers call from the airport. The agent takes the details the dispatcher needs.

  1. Asks the flight number, passengers and bags.
  2. Asks the drop-off address and any child seats.
  3. Passes the booking to the dispatcher with a message.
  4. Transfers to a person if the flight is delayed or details are unclear.

The dispatcher gets complete bookings without answering every call.

03 — Private clinic · Colombo 7

Booking appointments for a private channelling centre

Patients call in English to book specialists. The agent books and passes clinical questions to staff.

  1. Asks the specialty and the preferred day.
  2. Books the slot in the calendar through Cal.com.
  3. Answers fee and location questions from the clinic's documents.
  4. Hands symptoms to the nurse or doctor.

Routine bookings are taken while the front desk stays with patients.

04 — Pharmacy and clinic · Jaffna

Answering calls in Tamil for a pharmacy and family clinic

Customers call in Tamil about opening hours and doctor schedules. The agent answers from the clinic's schedule.

  1. Greets in Tamil and asks the reason for the call.
  2. Answers hours and doctor-schedule questions.
  3. Takes an appointment request.
  4. Transfers urgent calls to a person.

Tamil-speaking customers get an answer in their own language at any hour.

05 — Apparel exporter · Colombo

Taking buyer calls from other time zones

Buyers in Europe and North America ring outside Colombo hours. The agent takes the brief.

  1. Asks the product type, quantity and target date.
  2. Answers minimum-order questions from your documents.
  3. Schedules a callback with the merchandiser.
  4. Logs the transcript.

The merchandiser rings back with the buyer's needs already written down.

06 — Tea-estate bungalow · Nuwara Eliya

Answering booking and meal-plan questions at a tea-estate bungalow

Guests ask about rooms, meal plans and the road. The agent answers and leaves booking requests for the manager.

  1. Answers room, meal-plan and access questions from the knowledge base.
  2. Takes dates, party size and arrival time.
  3. Leaves a request for the manager.
  4. Transfers to a person for special requests.

The manager sees only the requests that need a decision.

07 — Tea exporter · Colombo

Calling back an overseas buyer who asked for a call

A buyer asked on the website for a call about samples. An outbound campaign rings at a time you set on the buyer's clock.

  1. Opens by saying who is calling, why, and that the call can stop.
  2. Asks the quantity and timing.
  3. Schedules a callback if the buyer is not ready.
  4. Adds anyone who says stop to your do-not-contact list.

Buyers who asked for a call are reached while they are still sourcing.

08 — Guesthouse · Ella

Taking room enquiries for a guesthouse near Ella Rock

The owners are out guiding guests when the phone rings. The agent answers at any hour.

  1. Answers room, check-in and walking-route questions from the knowledge base.
  2. Takes dates and the number of guests.
  3. Passes group bookings to the owner.
  4. Leaves a message and transcript.

Owners stay with guests and return calls only for bookings that need them.

In practice

How voice ai is used in Sri Lanka.

  • Voice agents speak English and Tamil. Sinhala is not supported, and we promise no date.
  • International workspaces import a number from Twilio, Telnyx or Plivo. We do not sell +94 numbers and have not verified which Sri Lankan numbers those providers can hold; forwarding your line is the simplest start.
  • Transfer to a person and voicemail detection work on Plivo and Telnyx numbers, not on an imported Twilio number.
  • We found no reliable national figure for phone-answering habits, so judge the need from your own call log.

Plainly

What this will not do for you in Sri Lanka.

So you can rule it in or out before you start.

  • No Sinhala by voice or chat. Set a transfer to a person or a callback for callers who cannot continue in English or Tamil.
  • We claim the Tamil language, not a Sri Lankan or Indian accent of it; have a native speaker test a voice.
  • It does not check any register or collect consent.
  • It does not give medical advice or negotiate prices. Tell it which calls go to a person.

The rules

The rules that apply in Sri Lanka.

The rules differ by country and change; you are responsible for following them where you operate.

Outbound calls: what we could not verify

On 25 October 2026 we could not confirm from an official source a Sri Lankan do-not-call register or a telemarketing calling-hours rule. One January 2020 industry report says the telecoms regulator (TRCSL) directed mobile operators to put a free opt-out in promotional text messages; we could not confirm it still applies or covers calls. We state no rule. The platform sets no calling window: set hours per campaign on the called person's clock, call only people who asked to hear from you, and ask your adviser and TRCSL first. Read the official text; not legal advice.

Personal data and recording

As reported on 10 August 2026, Extraordinary Gazette No. 2498/16 of 22 July 2026 sets 1 January 2027 for sections 2 and 3 of the Personal Data Protection Act, No. 9 of 2022, and Parts I and III (including duties of controllers and processors and rules on sending data abroad); a law-firm note says data-subject rights and enforcement are not in that order. We support region deployments for enterprise customers. Recording is off by default; we found no verified Sri Lankan recording rule, so tell callers if you record. Read the Gazette; not legal advice.

Read on 25 October 2026. Read the official text; this is not legal advice.
