WhatsApp automation use cases for businesses in Sri Lanka

A WhatsApp AI agent answers customers in 37 languages (English and Tamil among them, Sinhala not), sends approved templates for reminders and confirmations, and hands over to your team in a shared inbox. These eight Sri Lanka use cases show where it fits, and where it does not.

In practice

How whatsapp automation is used in Sri Lanka.

  • WhatsApp replies run in 37 languages: English and Tamil are among them. Sinhala is not.
  • We found no reliable national figure for WhatsApp use in Sri Lanka, so test it with your own customers.
  • Templates are needed outside the 24-hour window, and Meta reviews them before you can use them.
  • A shared inbox lets your team take over any conversation, including Sinhala chats the agent cannot answer.

Plainly

What this will not do for you in Sri Lanka.

So you can rule it in or out before you start.

  • No Sinhala replies. Messages in Sinhala go to your team in the shared inbox.
  • No catalogue, checkout or WhatsApp Pay messages, and no coexistence with the WhatsApp Business App.
  • It does not check any register or collect consent.
  • Meta's business verification and payment card stay in Meta's tools.

The rules

The rules that apply in Sri Lanka.

The rules differ by country and change; you are responsible for following them where you operate.

Opt-in and messaging policy

Meta's WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy (last updated 23 September 2026) says you may message only people who gave you their number and opted in, and that you must respect opt-out and block requests. A customer who messages you first has started a conversation; a promotion to past customers needs opt-in. Read the official text; not legal advice.

Marketing rules and personal data

On 25 October 2026 we could not confirm a Sri Lankan rule on marketing messages from an official source; one January 2020 industry report mentions a free opt-out directed by the telecoms regulator for promotional texts. The Personal Data Protection Act, No. 9 of 2022, begins in stages: a Gazette of 22 July 2026 sets 1 January 2027 for sections 2 and 3 and Parts I and III, as reported. We support region deployments for enterprise customers. Read the Gazette; not legal advice.

Read on 25 October 2026. Read the official text; this is not legal advice.
